So I just got back from New York and LOVED it! I got some great food at some omni restaurants, but what I am really excited about was my experience at Candle 79! So thank you all who recommended it.
We got there right on time for our reservations and they were so nice. The place looked amazing and the menu even better. I got the seitan chimichurri for a start and it was great. Our waitress told us about the specials, and I just had to get the special entree. It was something like pumpkin seed crusted seitan steaks over kale and friend plantains and some sort of sauce with an avocado salad on top and pickled... ginger? Anyway, it was delicious. My friend got the sangria and the garlic mashed potato and porcini crusted tofu dish. He told me if I cooked like this all the time he would easily be vegan. I was so stuffed afterwards but i got the live key lime tart to go which also came with huckleberry ice cream. However, I ended up not being able to eat it because we went out that night, I stayed out with a friend, got lost in Brooklyn trying to go back to Upper East Manhattan (don't ask, long story, but I started in Manhattan and went the wrong way on the subway) and I didn't have time to go back to the apartment to get it since we had to catch the Amtrak home. My friend thought about grabbing it but didnt have any free hands. Oh well, it's another reason to go back! and here is the dinner pic:
I'm on the left.
That that's my Candle 79 story. Thanks again for the recommendation!
