That is odd.

I found it while sifting through Reuters International. I have to rely on International news sources to find out what's going on over there cuz I don't speak German. Your words have entirely too many letters in them for me to comprehend what the hell you're talking about.

I'm impressed by people who learn English as a second language, though, cuz when I stand back and look at it, English looks like it would be a real pain in the ass to learn as an adult.

Okay, I found ONE german news source and it is some kind of tabloid, which is known to use big letters to hide the fact that there is no real story...

Do you remember the story of the german who made gas out of cats? Same "news"paper...

I learned english in 5th grade and even had an oral examination for my graduation, nowadays they start to learn it in 1st grade over here.

And you even need at least 4yrs ofexperience in a second foreign language for the highest graduation (which is the only one which allows you to go to university) over here.

There's no language requirement in public secondary schools here in Michigan (or in any other state that I'm aware of), but they offer elective courses in Spanish, French and German at most schools. In college, for most majors, you need four semesters of foreign language (I took Spanish - an almost necessary language here in the States) and later studied Russian.

I don't know why, but I just found German to be...intimidating...although I do enjoy your use of the letter "ß".

Russian was the eastern germans english in school (for obvious reasons).

Yeah, the ß rules. It is pronounced "sz", btw.

And I think every language can be intimidating, if spoken in the right way. I personally have a strong dislike for spanish, but I can't give you a rational reasoning for it.
