Anime vs. Manga

Oct 15, 2011 15:07

Hello, all :) I've only just recently discovered Uraboku, but having only the anime and the first 18 chapters to go off of, I am SO incredibly confused and kind of disappointed and dissatisfied. I started with the anime and fell in love right away, but as the second arc started, everything just seemed to get more and more...weird and vague. So I ( Read more... )

Yeah, I'm definitely enjoying the manga much more than the anime. (What I've been able to read of it thus far at least.) I wouldn't have thought having the extra humor bits would work so well since it is a pretty dramatic series, but I think it all works perfectly! And definitely my favorite part of the manga is that Luka is much better developed - the anime mostly seemed to just shove him in the background and have him lurk, and I wondered it the VA ever got tired of repeating the same lines over and over XD

I really hope that the mangaka intends to make this an incredibly long series, then, if there are still so many things she hasn't answered. I'm going to feel incredibly cheated if she never explains things like how Girl!Yuki and Luka met and fell in love, why Yuki seems to be the only reincarnated person with absolutely no memory of the past whatsoever...etc. etc. ad nauseam.

Also, I am still waiting for some canon manlove for Yuki/Luka and Shusei/Hotsuma. I WILL NEVER GIVE UP HOPE!

My very limited knowledge of Japanese (and the helpful pictures lol) show that the terrible last battle from the anime (yes, I was very dissatisfied too, and I hadn't read the manga then either) is nonexistent in the manga. I've read up to the end of vol.8 (chapter 40). No idea how many vols it's going to be altogether ( ... )

I'm actually really, really relieved to hear that. The anime pretty much fell to crap after that big Cadenza/Reiga battle at the temple, so I look forward to seeing how that really plays out! And OMG thank you for the info about Yuki - that was a huge annoyance for me in the anime, seeing him just standing there when I knew he could at least try to fight ( ... )

All this information makes me really excited to read future volumes :D The new characters sound like they'll be a lot of fun, and I'm happy any time I get a bit of new insight into Yuki and/or Luka's past. Thanks for the info! ♥

Absolutely agree with all the words that were said about the end of anime. I just want to add... While watching last 3 series I had a strong feeling that characters are drawn a bit differently than before. Just like people who did that decided: well, the end is weird so why should we put too much energy in our job?? :D Or probably it's because they didn't have the manga in front of their eyes. I wonder, who the hell created such a disappointing scenario of the end??
So the manga wins 100% (though I will rewatch the anime again and again too)
As a person who has no knowledge in Japanese I only can count on Yen Press who releases the manga in English as omnibuses and all those kind fellow fans here who translated new chapters a bit

Funny that you mention that - I was wondering about the quality of the art too in those final few episodes. It probably was because they didn't have the manga to draw directly from. Sigh. Lame.

And I really would like to know who's responsible for coming up with that ending. Did they really think that would satisfy anyone?! Especially since, from what I'm gathering from people's comments, they planned from the beginning to not have a second season. If they knew they couldn't expand on the ending of the first season, they really could have done a MUCH better job on it.

But I agree, I'll probably still watch the anime over and over again XD At least the whole first arc was amazing.

I'm really excited that Uraboku got licensed and can't wait to be able to buy my own copies of the omnibuses! (Although I am kind of concerned - when North America finally gets caught up to Japan's releases, does this mean we'll always have to wait for another two volumes to be released before we get more? Hmm. I probably think too much haha.)

Good question indeed. The website of Yen Press says: "Each Yen Press volume of the series will be an omnibus edition containing two volumes of the original Japanese series!". So looks like they really will wait for another 2 volumes each time. I'll die before I get them all :D I hope the series won't be very long.
Btw, I live in Russia, and the delivery from USA is pretty expensive, so I wait till December (when a new omnibus will be released) to order them both at once. What a great New Year's gift for myself!!! :P
PS:honestly, I want to see the second season for two reasons - Luka's voice and the soundtrack :D because the plot is better in the manga as we all agreed

I'm actually glad they're keeping up the omnibus thing - it may mean waiting longer, but I'm OCD and like all my books in a series to be the same (i.e. all hardcover or paperback, all mass market or trade paperback size, etc. etc....I'm weird).

I would HEARTILY welcome a second season - I would never say no to more Uraboku! But yes, I agree that Luka's voice and the soundtrack were definite highlights of the anime. If Luka had more spoken lines, I probably would've gotten pregnant XD And I've been listening to pretty much nothing but the soundtrack for, oh, about a week now - IT'S JUST SO GOOD!

I recently finished watching the anime too and must admit that I was more taken in by the animation, the lines, the music and the VAs rather than the plot. (yes, I'm shallow in that sense ;p ( ... )

AHHHHH the soundtrack was AMAZING. It's pretty much all I've been listening to for the past few days. Definitely one of the best parts of the anime ( ... )

I fear [Cadenza] is going to be around for still quiet a while due to his shared past with Kuroto.

See, if they were planning to make a second season of the anime, I wouldn't mind that at all. They'd still need villains to fight, and villains with shared history with the protagonists are always intriguing. But since there never seemed to be any hope for a second season, I wish they would have given Kuroto some resolution.

It got somewhere stated that Zweilts can't take out Opasts. In fact, the rule in the Zweilt handbook is to find an escape route and make a run for it.

Was that in the anime?! I don't remember that being in there (if it was, my bad), but it really would have been helpful to include that tidbit. It makes sense and helps the Zweilts not seem so pathetic by making it clear that Opasts are supposed to be really freaking tough to beat ( ... )

You wrote: "Also, does anyone know how many volumes the manga will wind up being? All I know is that it's currently on volume 9 (how many chapters is that, anyway?"

I just want to add some info from Hotaru Odagiri's blog: she is recovering from illness [some bad flu it seems] and too much work, so the manga has been put in hiatus a few times [we're now on the 3rd hiatus (next Asuka 12)]. Last month we had the chapter 44 published - the first from the upcoming volume 10. The next chapter will probably come in December (Asuka 13).
Each volume has usually 5 or 4 chapters and plus an extra one [volume 9 was a bit different].
No plans to end the manga so far! :DD
Hope I could be helpful with the infos. ^-^ {Ah, and welcome to this wonderful universe, our Uraboku's club!}

Oh no D: I hope she makes a full recovery soon! The flu is definitely not fun, I don't want her suffering for too long. (...and, yes, okay, I really want more Uraboku.) I don't mind a hiatus - I can be patient so long as I know that more will come eventually! She can go on hiatus as many times as she wants, she's just not allowed to abandon the manga =P

Happy to be a part of this universe! (How could I not be with all the gorgeous men for me to drool over?! Hahaha!)
