Anime vs. Manga

Oct 15, 2011 15:07

Hello, all :) I've only just recently discovered Uraboku, but having only the anime and the first 18 chapters to go off of, I am SO incredibly confused and kind of disappointed and dissatisfied. I started with the anime and fell in love right away, but as the second arc started, everything just seemed to get more and more...weird and vague. So I ( Read more... )

Absolutely agree with all the words that were said about the end of anime. I just want to add... While watching last 3 series I had a strong feeling that characters are drawn a bit differently than before. Just like people who did that decided: well, the end is weird so why should we put too much energy in our job?? :D Or probably it's because they didn't have the manga in front of their eyes. I wonder, who the hell created such a disappointing scenario of the end??
So the manga wins 100% (though I will rewatch the anime again and again too)
As a person who has no knowledge in Japanese I only can count on Yen Press who releases the manga in English as omnibuses and all those kind fellow fans here who translated new chapters a bit

Funny that you mention that - I was wondering about the quality of the art too in those final few episodes. It probably was because they didn't have the manga to draw directly from. Sigh. Lame.

And I really would like to know who's responsible for coming up with that ending. Did they really think that would satisfy anyone?! Especially since, from what I'm gathering from people's comments, they planned from the beginning to not have a second season. If they knew they couldn't expand on the ending of the first season, they really could have done a MUCH better job on it.

But I agree, I'll probably still watch the anime over and over again XD At least the whole first arc was amazing.

I'm really excited that Uraboku got licensed and can't wait to be able to buy my own copies of the omnibuses! (Although I am kind of concerned - when North America finally gets caught up to Japan's releases, does this mean we'll always have to wait for another two volumes to be released before we get more? Hmm. I probably think too much haha.)

Good question indeed. The website of Yen Press says: "Each Yen Press volume of the series will be an omnibus edition containing two volumes of the original Japanese series!". So looks like they really will wait for another 2 volumes each time. I'll die before I get them all :D I hope the series won't be very long.
Btw, I live in Russia, and the delivery from USA is pretty expensive, so I wait till December (when a new omnibus will be released) to order them both at once. What a great New Year's gift for myself!!! :P
PS:honestly, I want to see the second season for two reasons - Luka's voice and the soundtrack :D because the plot is better in the manga as we all agreed

I'm actually glad they're keeping up the omnibus thing - it may mean waiting longer, but I'm OCD and like all my books in a series to be the same (i.e. all hardcover or paperback, all mass market or trade paperback size, etc. etc....I'm weird).

I would HEARTILY welcome a second season - I would never say no to more Uraboku! But yes, I agree that Luka's voice and the soundtrack were definite highlights of the anime. If Luka had more spoken lines, I probably would've gotten pregnant XD And I've been listening to pretty much nothing but the soundtrack for, oh, about a week now - IT'S JUST SO GOOD!

I agree with you about all [lame anime ending, characters development...]. Anastasia made two very important points here: the poor quality of the anime's art in the final episodes, which was a shame for Odagiri's art is so beautiful, perfect and seductive; and the soundtrack which is absolutely superb! This is something we are so lucky to have, comparing to others animes. I love so much those songs, they translate the characters feelings and the mangas atmosphere so well! It's always playing on my I-pod! :D ( ... )

I really hope the mangaka does make this a long series. It's just such a great story, and there's so much of it still to tell! I just bought the first omnibus to support her ;) I'll definitely keep buying the omnibuses as they come out, and I'll probably look into buying the anime too - I want Uraboku to last a long time!
