Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!
"Ideas are like fish. If you want to catch little fish, you can stay in the shallow water. But if you want to catch the big fish, you've got to go deeper"
[1] [BGM 'Ai wo Sakebe']
Ohh. Certainly, that's wonderful. This is a quote by American director,
David Lynch-san. It means that in order to get better ideas, you need to search deeper within yourself.
This was sent in by listener Yuuko-san. The message reads:
"Ohno-kun, when you make a piece of art, you often talk about how you can or can't see your vision. Do you often have times when the ideas just don't come to you?"
Well, yeah. But in relation to paintings and such, generally as long as I can picture the finished piece, it's generally fine.
With paintings, once you can see the vision, it's just a matter of getting close to it. Of course, there are things I worry about along the way, but in the end it's about 80% about getting close to the original vision.
And then, well, along the way, feelings change, I guess. With paintings, it's like that, I suppose.
And then, when it comes to choreography, there's an ideal vision I can see, but there's times when good choreography just doesn't come to mind. Mm. So it's kinda different from painting.
Like I can see this image of the vision, but the vision doesn't provide detailed steps. So all you can do is keep moving. Do nothing but move and occasionally you glimpse a hint and you catch hold of it. "Ah, that bit just now!"
You grasp it, then later you listen to the the music, keeping still the whole time while you see that image. Then when you actually start moving, it fits. Something like that tends to happen a lot.
Occasionally, when the music's playing, I think, "Ah, this is a song I could dance to". Like, somehow some interesting choreography just comes straight to mind. Even when it's a completely unrelated song.
"Ah, it becomes like this... Ahh... Ahh." More choreography keeps surfacing, bit by bit.
But then I end up forgetting it. At times like that, I think, "Uwaa, what a waste!"
I wonder if there's anything that can record memories? (laughs)
So like, for me, it just comes as a flash in my head, but initially I just end up forgetting it. "Uwaa, where'd it go? Where'd it go?"
There's times when I can't find it, so what I often do is like, when I'm like, "Ah, I've got it," even when I write it down, I can't remember how it goes. Like "right hand goes like this", but I still can't do it. So I draw pictures.
So like, when I've done four counts of choreography in my head, I draw it. Then gradually as I move through it, it comes back to me.
This year, too... I don't know if I'll be doing any choreography, but I've been thinking it's about time I get my body moving. Before I realised it, it's already March, after all.
Yeah. Honestly, right now I've not been moving at all. Like even if you asked me to do concerts now, it'd be impossible. I'm practically half-retired.
Yeah. It's fine once in a while, right? Well, but I've been thinking it's about time I started moving my body again.
That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!
