Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi.
Here's today's thought of the day; come on!
"Hair the colour of a crow's wet wing."
[1] [BGM 'Don't You Get It']
That kinda felt good saying it.
This is a figure of speech describing a woman's damp and glossy black hair. This was an expression that's been used since the time of the
Man'yōshū. There are also the expressions 'wet crow' (濡れ烏, nuregarasu) and 'crow wing coloured' (烏羽色, karasuba-iro).
Crows, huh? Crows are pitch-black, aren't they? And they're kinda glossy. And those glossy bits give you a glimpse of blue or green. But they're pitch-black, right?
But I'm now black. I probably dyed it black in January last year? From then til now it's been black. It's probably the blackness of my own hair now.
Now that I think about it, it's probably been since the time I did 'Maou'. Probably. Um, that I've really had my own natural hair colour. Since then it's always been some sort of brown.
For the character of Kaibutsu-kun, it was browner. Like it was lightened or had various things done to it. So now might be the only time it's been completely my natural hair colour.
What sort of hairstyle should I have? Maybe I should have a throwback to my debut days?
In my debut days, it was a little brown. There was probably a little dye left in it. It was kinda long. Mm. There's been times when it was cut slightly and made a little browner.
And then I started having short hair. Once during the stageplays, it was yellow. For the musical. So I went blond.
Then when the musical was over, that yellow was kinda embarrassing. (laughs) So I had a little brown added. It was kinda cream-coloured. It was a pretty colour.
Then, well, I did various things. 'Maou' was with black hair. It's been a while since I did that, hasn't it?
Then before that, when I did the stageplay, I was blond. Then I went black. Then it went back to my own hair once, didn't it? It was around April that we did that photoshoot.
Then it grew out a little and I had various things done to it. Basically I had a brown era, right? So I did 'Kaibutsu-kun'. But it was always dyed somehow or another.
What should I do with it from now on?
Occasionally I let the makeup artists trim it. Like during concerts, during tours and stuff, we have makeup artists who have been with us long-term. "Could you trim it a little?"
I often have it cut during concerts. Lately it's just before actual performances and stuff.
But lately, frankly, it's been growing out, right? Initially, right, the hair around my eyes was really annoying when I'd just had a bath.
But lately, I've gotten used to it. So like, well... I figured maybe I should go back to my debut-era. Maybe I should go back to my debut-era hairstyle.
But back then, it was kind of an 'anything goes' hairstyle, so I don't really want to go back to that. Well, it's best as it is right now.
Right, so I'll leave it as it is!
That's all; this was Ohno Satoshi!

[1] In Japanese: 髪はカラスの濡れ羽色 (kami wa karasu no nurebairo).
Technically 濡れ羽 means 'wet feathers/plumage' but 'wet wing' has a nicer ring to it.
No audio download but
it's on youtube here if you want to listen to Ohno ramble about his hair <3
