It didn't take long for Buffy to realize that when the sharply dressed black man, and she really needed to ask his name because she couldn't keep calling him that, had said 'medical' he had actually meant 'the morgue'. Which was something she might've expected from the Scoobies or someone in their organization but not NCIS.
As soon as she entered the morgue she felt sort of calm in a way she had not done in any other part of the federal building. The first person she saw there was an elderly man with glasses and a bow tie, although she could hear someone else further in.
It was a relatively large room, but with the slabs, the M.E., his assistant, Agent Bishop, Agent Gibbs, her, and her beefcake guards, it got crowded. It also didn't surprise her one bit when the doctor took Bishop to another room to give her an examination.
In the meantime, she was the main focus of one very upset Agent Gibbs.
"Why hasn't any of the Slayers before you told us about your ability to see through two-way mirrors, Miss Summers?"
"Why would they? It probably didn't come up, and even if it did, not all of us can do it. So it's kind of irrelevant."
The man glared at her, and while it was a good one, she had seen better. More importantly, they'd had no compunction to go through with the implied threat. Agent Gibbs would not be allowed to, and even if he had tried he would've been unlikely to be able to cause much damage.
"We need to remove all of you, and to do that we need to know what you're capable of."
She raised an unimpressed eyebrow, "Or what? You're an elderly human man. You don't pose a threat to me. All the politicians already want to execute me, so you can't hold that over my head. You can't force me, you have nothing to bargain with, and there is no way you or anyone else can kill off the Slayer line. It doesn't matter how hard you try. We've been around for millennia before the public found out about us, and we're going to be around for millennia to come."
"You're all evil. There has to be a way to do it. An Achilles heel, something."
"I've been in NCIS's custody for a day now, and what have I done that's evil? I've played nice and answered all your questions without losing my temper regardless of how stupid and prejudiced those questions have been. I just saved one of your agents' lives, and all you have to say is that you want me and all Slayers dead?" She shook her head.
"You saw how fast I moved, you know I broke free of the handcuffs. What makes you think I can't leave this place if I want to?"
The man didn't budge. "You're planning something." He suddenly sent the sliding doors a suspicious look before giving all the drawers on the opposite wall a much more guarded look. "Are there other Slayers in here or in the building we don't know about?"
"No, not that I know about. And no, I'm not planning an attack and neither is anyone else in my organization. It isn't how we operate."
"Then who were those men who shot at you and Bishop? Why did they shoot at you?"
"I don't know, but I'm guessing Bishop and your geeks probably tripped something when they began searching for Harmony's real identity. They probably tried to verify something else as well. This likely means she is at the very least entertaining the thought that I'm telling the truth, and that someone doesn't approve. If she starts asking questions it could jeopardize whatever is really going on, and clearly they want that stopped at any cost."
Another unbidden thought made itself known. "They shot at Bishop to quiet her. You should probably make sure that whoever she spoke to about verifying what I've said, also has someone guarding them that you trust or they might now get out of it alive."
He startled a little, but rather than rebuke her he fished an honest-to-God flip phone out of his pocket and called someone to make arrangements. Hmm. It was good to know that he took the safety of his people seriously, even if he didn't believe the source of the warning.
