there's some group at work that's been here all week (i have no idea what they're doing but they took over the big conference room), and because they're here all day they get lunch, and today for some reason there were a lot of leftovers. so i passed up my sandwich (ham) in favor of slightly spicy grilled shrimp on skewers, grilled veg, sliced steak, baby potatoes with rosemary, and did i mention the shrimp? i ate an inadvisable number of them and i am not sorry.

aside from lunch i feel like all i did today was send emails. same for yesterday.

on saturday my sister and i saw ant-man and the wasp, which was adorable and fun and luis continues to be my favorite. and hope actually got shit to do! and i really liked hannah john-kamen. a couple of times they tried for funny in the middle of a serious dramatic scene, and while i appreciate some levity in my srs drama, it didn't totally work. it was overall an enjoyable movie, tho. i recommend it if you haven't seen it yet, and not just because michael pena is seriously the most adorable. (how do you get the tilde over the n in his name?)

on sunday @bliss116 was briefly in town so we met up and hung out, by which i mean we had lunch at quincy market in full view of a very entertaining street performer and then walked around the north end and bought pastries. there was even a small and random parade. (very small - just a marching band. looked a little like a police marching band.) (must be parade season in the north end.) (the north end is the historically italian part of boston, for them what aren't familiar. it's got tiny streets and no parking and a lot of restaurants and several options for cannoli and delicious cream puffs.) the very entertaining street performer enlisted the help of three strong-looking guys from the audience to help him get on his ten-foot unicycle, before which they had to be dressed in kilts and led through a warm-up dance routine. it was very cute. and it's always fun to spend time with my fellow fangirls. more fellow fen should come to boston. :D

tonight the movie theater near me had a double feature - i guess it's a thing they're doing on wednesdays this summer - the outsiders and foxes - and because my sister was a MASSIVE, MASSIVE outsiders fangirl back in the day, we saw it. it's kind of cheesy and kind of dated - for one thing, there's A LOT of smoking - but i still think it's a good movie. it is also, unsurprisingly, slashy as hell. (this is not something i picked up on when i was thirteen.) the guys all have a really easy, comfortable chemistry with each other. and they're all so young! well, patrick swayze was pushing thirty, but otherwise. it's c thomas howell's second movie - after e.t. - and rob lowe's first and they seriously look like babies. i couldn't get over it. i mean, c thomas howell was so cute! and now he looks like a walking cadaver. (which i say without judgement. he was the unsub in one of my favoritest episodes of criminal minds, and he was creepy as shit.) and oh my god, matt dillon was hot. i always forget how hot he used to be. those cheekbones, man.

all the guys who played the greasers were pretty much unknowns, and they all went on to be big stars. it was fun to watch them at the beginnings of their careers. there was also some good audience participation - we laughed at some genuinely funny stuff and some stuff that i wouldn't have thought was laugh-out-loud funny if i was watching by myself, and after the rumble at the end we all cheered - and a lot more of it was familiar than i was expecting.

so the 100 continues dark as hell - THEY ATE EACH OTHER IN STATE-SANCTIONED CANNIBALISM - and i no longer know why anyone is doing anything. too many plots. and echo and co did not go back to the gorge to rescue octavia. they went back to get bellamy. octavia just happened to still be alive. well, maddi probably went back for octavia. but the rest of them? i firmly believe they were only interested in getting bellamy back alive. he was their friend. octavia wasn't.

but holy shit, the dark year was dark because abby convinced them to TURN TO CANNIBALISM TO STAY ALIVE. CANNIBALISM. and octavia was resistant, you can tell. i think she knew better than abby that it was something they couldn't come back from. abby still thought they could reclaim their humanity after they weren't struggling so hard to survive. so yeah, still dark.

claws continues batshit, altho i'm disappointed that the only two jewish characters turned out to be a. a potentially homicidal stalker (the square-dancing messianic jew*) and b. a snitch (the anxious half-lebanese jew). altho the cops caught the poor anxious doctor - and they have shit on him and he knows he's screwed - and he chose to wear a wire rather than go to jail. so he's weak and cowardly, but at least he has an excuse.

there was a weird kind of hillbilly funeral, tho - i guess it was a funeral? i missed something and then roller was digging something up - and that was oddly fun.

*i personally don't consider messianic jews to be actually jewish, but apparently the show does.

it's hot and humid and i need to be in bed. >.< i have van morrison's gloria stuck in my head, because it's in a bunch of scenes in the outsiders. but mostly i need to be in bed.

movie review, claws, ah nostalgia, the 100, new job second floor, fun with fangirls
