dancing boys: *line-dance*
i had to change my flight down to
wincon and am now arriving friday afternoon rather than wednesday night, which means i won't get the chance to actually see new orleans on thursday, which means i now want to do it saturday. who's going to wincon who wants to tour new orleans on saturday? *bats eyelashes* don't make me squee over the buildings all by myself.
now that i've already asked for that thursday off, should i still take it? and just spend the day, i dunno, packing? and baking cookies? and finding my mom a birthday card? or should i come to work and just add it back into my free vacation days? as of now, i have five vacation days left to take before the end of the year, counting the three i got off for wincon.
(my mom's 70th birthday is that thursday. she wants me to be here on the actual day and i don't blame her. it just didn't occur to me to maybe make allowances for it when i booked my flight in july, because i am just that considerate of other people's lives and feelings. >.< )
anyway. this only matters to maybe six people. i should probably warn folks in advance that my plane leaves boston at the ass-crack of dawn friday morning (no, seriously - it leaves at 5:25 [1], which means i need to be at the airport at 4:25, which means i need to leave my house at 4:00) so i may or may not be sleep-deprived and short-tempered. but! i will also have cookies. :D and i will be among fangirls.
in unrelated news that might be interesting if you like ikea, i went back there with my sister yesterday and successfully bought the
sofa table with shelves that i wanted, so i can finish unpacking my books. also i randomly found and even more randomly bought a
flat file so i can unpack my bookbinding stuff. it was kind of a $119 impulse purchase. >.< but i need it and will use it. everything's being delivered today. i'm actually looking forward to assembling furniture.
here's some good news for gay and lesbian americans in the military -
don't ask don't tell expires at midnight. woot, we say, woot. now if we can just get the government to recognize the partners and children of those gay servicemembers and treat them as military families just like all the partners and kids of straight servicemembers....
[1] this is so i can be in new orleans early enough to be able to take advantage of friday afternoon activities and not have to worry about missing my connecting flight. i can either spend two hours changing planes in miami or fifty minutes changing planes in houston, and i've missed enough connecting flights in my life to know that fifty minutes ain't gonna do it.
