My laptop got reformatted yesterday, and all of the files I had stored in it got lost in the fracas. It wasn't much - mostly just the articles I wrote while I was working at a bookstore, an article I wrote when I was in Berlin, and a list of bands whose albums I wanted to download - but it still felt substantial anyway ( Read more... )

Wakeboarding seems like an easy enough sport: Stand on a board and grip it like your life depended on it. Perhaps there's a risk of your arms being pulled out of their sockets, but since I've never heard of anything like that happening, it's best to think of that as an extremely rare possibility.

I'm sure most travelers have some sort of trouble that always bugs them on their trips, no matter how well-prepared they are. Maybe they always end up drunk and in a puddle of their own vomit by the weekend. Or they somehow always manage to end up sleeping with a Thai kathoey every single time they try to pick somebody up. By the time I got to Bonn, I knew that I had made a mistake by underestimating the effect the cold would have on me. You guys want to know how cold it was, and how unprepared I was for it? I could not find where the bus station was, even when it was just 50 STEPS AWAY FROM ME. Christ Almighty.
