With the Aetas
So, in the last post I mentioned in passing that I went up to the mountains of Tarlac to be with Aetas, and I expressed disappointment at the fact that we found them dancing to Rihanna's "Umbrella" when we finally got there. Yes, I am well aware that I sounded like a freaking American tourist, but I wasn't exactly in top condition at the time.
See, I had been told to show up at the meeting point at around 5 in the morning, as it would be a long bus ride to Tarlac and a strict schedule was being followed. So I arrived there on time, wait for AN HOUR AND A HALF, before things start moving along. I actually slept on the fucking sidewalk.
And on the bus, too. I only woke up to catch them watching One More Chance, which I hate to admit I actually liked.
Then we forded that damn river. I normally really like things like this -- if any company wants me to go bungee jumping I will definitely be signing up -- but nobody told me that this would be in the itinerary. I had no slippers, no shorts, nothing but the clothes on my back.
I FORDED THE RIVER AND CLIMBED A MOUNTAIN BY FOOT. By the end of the trip I felt like I was part of Survivor: Philippines cast.
