Things (the disjointed, parenthetical, rambling version with lots of name-dropping)

It's been almost a month since my last post. It's not been that I've had an unwillingness to write, but it's been such a full and engaging month that I just haven't found the time. I feel a little guilty at that, because there were a number of moments that I would have loved have written down for posterity.

- I started work at a really fantastic arts center doing interesting things and getting paid well for it. I'm still somewhat awed and amazed that my fantastic, very competent co-workers seem to like me and value my opinions instead of denouncing me as an ill-equipped fraud destined for only the most base and low-paying of jobs.

- Friends from Korea! library_wench flew in from L.A. to welcome wearebarnacles home to Phoenix. Many extremely excellent times were had by all, involving divey Middle Eastern restaurants and rock climbing. (But not at the same time. That would be madness.)

- trly_g0n_fishng braved the heat to visit me this month as well. More incredibly excellent times were had; we took a road trip to Sedona, hiked Usery Pass (with the aforementioned wearebarnacles and her family), went to the zoo, and made meatcake. I was sad when she left.

- I got a tattoo that I've been contemplating for a few months now. (Pictures will be forthcoming.) It's a smiling Buddha on my right shoulder, designed to resemble a pendant from Hong Kong that I had given my brother a few years ago. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome; it complements the stylized lotus on my opposite shoulder nicely.

Right now, I'm in Indianapolis. It's a predictably bittersweet homecoming, but hopefully one that will be more sweet than bitter. I'll get to see my_small_space for the first time since Korea as well as another buddy from the good ol' Dae Han who happens to be in town. I also plan to hang out with leef, not to mention spend some time with justingauz and a host of old friends.

(Hey mickalickahi, smashingpeggy, soundtechie121, and anyone else with whom I haven't made any formal plans yet: if you're free around 6:00 on Monday night, please please come to the get-together my mom's throwing at our house so I can see you.)

Even poor, sodden, tired project_mayhem_ is battling a nasty rain (plus bike troubles and shitty drivers and a minor accident) to make it down from Chicago for the Moto GP race. (If you're of the prayin' sort, please ask your local deity to make sure that he arrives here safe and sound this morning.)

I have decided that this extended weekend is going to be so memorable (hopefully in a good way) that I'm going to write at least a little bit every night that I'm in Indy. It might not be much, but I really want to get back in the practice of writing with some frequency. What better time to do it than a trip home?

korea, work, update, home, family, friends
