It's 3 weeks until the Chicago Marathon, and I celebrated by wrapping up my last long run of the training cycle - a 22-mile effort on the Silver Comet Trail (i.e. FLAT) with the last 6 miles at my desired marathon pace of 8:30 per mile. The Chicago Marathon and I have a troubled history. When I volunteered at the Pine Mountain 40-mile Trail Race last December, one of the women who came through the aid station was a woman by the name of Susan Donnelly, an ultramarathon trail runner and motivational speaker. So, for the past two years, I've been in Seward, Alaska, for the July 4th holiday. It's a delightful place to be, since the whole community, and then some, comes out for the annual running of Mt. Marathon, rumored to be the 3rd-oldest foot race in America ( Read more... )
