Scientists in India have successfully trapped light in a specific nano-soup with a magnetic field applied. They claim the ability to adjust the trap to capture any specific frequency of light, and it operates at room temperature with commonly-available parts. Very cool!

So it turns out, carbon nanotubes are best at stopping bullets. Summary: a layer about 1/42nd of an inch will stop a revolver bullet and, unlike Kevlar or similar, it won't leave you bruised up.
