My birthday was fine, I guess -- I spent it at home, sewing, and being on the phone. A surprising number of people called me up to wish me a happy birthday, enough that I didn't even get to make breakfast until after noon. And I got presents! Panduro Hobby goes Steampunk? Yes, not particularly cheap, but at least they are real metal and I've been trying to find nice-looking used cogs and gears at flea markets, with no luck so far. (I had to buy these, of course.)

I also tried to buy these, but they replied that they don't ship to Sweden! *sigh*

Oh well, goggles are silly, anyway.

I suddenly have sewing/making inspiration. After a whole summer-full of free time, when I did virtually nothing, obviously.

So, in no particular order:

• A new bonnet (already started, have the fabric)

I bought a short autumn coat a week and a half ago. It was on sale, so I got it even though I didn't quite like the shiny brass buttons, figuring I might find nicer buttons at the haberdasher's. I had to remove all the buttons anyway, since buttons are never sewn on properly these days -- two of them came off in the shop as I was trying on the coat ( Read more... )

I went to the flea market yesterday, and got there rather late (as usual), but I still had the good fortune to find an old black top hat -- the woman who sold it said it used to belong to her grandfather, who had most likely inherited it in his turn, so it's fairly old and worn, but it still looks good and it's quite tall. :) I had to re-stitch ( Read more... )

I bought an expandable heavy wicker trellis today, like the one I already have there, to put on top of the rail along one side of my balcony to make a combined fence/trellis. I realised I could easily cut the wicker reeds a bit shorter at the bottom of on one side with pruning shears, so that it could rest on the outside window sill (which is of ( Read more... )
