could've walked around the block 'cause all roads lead to home

Ando had been settling in really quite well. He didn't have very many friends outside of the people he already knew, but when had he needed more than Hiro? Too many friends spread one's attention too thin and well, yeah. Despite Ando's eternal quest to be popular and well liked, he had at least one foot firmly rooted in the reality of what he could ( Read more... )

Charlie had been for a run and, if she was honest, she was pretty unspeakable. She'd thought that she might go and take a soak in the hot springs for a while, and then she saw Ando, which reminded her, she still needed to talk to Duck about maybe extending her hut.

And then she saw the sword in Ando's hand.

"...Oh, no," she said, mostly teasing. "Not you too?"

Ando glanced up and over at Charlie and smiled wearily. "It is not unusual then to find things from home?" he asked as he tried to remember if Hiro had told him about such a thing. He probably did and Ando refused to believe it in his stubborn state of trying so desperately to get back to civilization and video games and porn. These were important things and even though it seemed more futile now, Ando was still determined to get back to them.

"Not unusual, no," said Charlie, brushing her fingers through her long, sweaty red hair. "I got the shrine. From the diner."

She made a face like she tasted something bad.

"People get things all the time. I dunno why, though."

Ando looked sympathetically at her and shifted the sword to one hand so that he wasn't...well standing there with a sword out in front of him looking like an idiot. "I am sorry," he said, remembering that shrine, remembering waiting and waiting for Hiro to get back. It seemed like that was all he did sometimes was wait for Hiro to come back. He wondered if he was still doing that back home even now.

"This is the sword Hiro went after Sylar with," Ando explained. "My sword that I bought when I thought his father had convinced him to abandon the quest we were on."

Trance's eyes widened when she saw the sword. It wasn't really the same as the ones that she'd remembered her other self using, but it was odd enough to pique her interest. She wandered over slowly, hoping that the person holding the sword wasn't the mean type.

"Hello," she said softly, once she was within hearing distance. "I don't think we've met, yet." She held out her hand. "I'm Trance. Trance Gemini."

Ando's eyes opened at the sound of a voice and he smiled sadly at the source of it. "Masahashi, Ando Masahashi," he said, grateful for the distraction from the sword as he shifted it to one hand so that he could shake hers. "It is a pleasure to meet you."

"Are you new?" Trance asked curiously. She didn't remember seeing him around, much, but will all of the chaos, lately, that didn't mean much. "I'm one of the medical students over in the Compound."

"Not, really. I have been here for...two months almost now, but I spend a lot of time reading." He'd been working his way through Pride and Prejudice and find quickly that he didn't like literature of that era at all in the slightest. He kept plucking away at it just to say that he finished one of the great English classics in its original format.

Hiro was told he ought to rest even though he was being let out of the clinic. He didn't really like sitting around, though, so he chose instead to take it easy, taking walks instead of doing anything strenuous. That walking was what brought him to the area, and he stopped mid-step when he noticed Ando standing there.

With a sword.

"Ando?" he called out, frowning a little when he saw his friend's expression.

It took Ando a moment to pull his gaze away from the sword and look at Hiro. "Hiro," he said, holding the katana a little tighter. There was so much about the future that he hadn't told his friend and now it seemed to separate them even more than it had before. Oh god, what was he going to do? How was he going to explain to Hiro that he'd gone after Sylar with the sword and Hiro had to rescue him without making himself sound totally incapable and unable to handle stressful situations?

"You have a katana now, too?" he asked, and it wasn't hard to see what he was holding wasn't something he could get on the island, though for what reason Ando was getting a sword he didn't know. "Did that just appear?"
