I was shipped Hepco-Becker sidecarriers for the GS500 (to fit the same panniers I bought for my R1200GS), and the instructions came only in German. OCR does a lot better than it did back when I first tried it in 1993. I know a lot of people around here are really happy for the "relatime" mount option, but I prefer my filesystems being POSIXly correct. I also happen to use atimes a lot.

And my ssh tip of the day would be that combined with the use of libtsocks (LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libtsocks.so), ssh -D works wonders as a VPN without having to worry about stupid flaky Crisco VPN clients that run in the kernel for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Like Andrew, I decided a few days ago to change my entire environment over from ISO8859-1 to UTF-8 (dammit, what was wrong with US-ASCII anyway, apart from being invented by the Americans?). I installed debian on my mum's machine lastnight, since windows is giving her such trouble.  For the first time ever, I let the installer do its thing instead of tweak everything the way it should be (ie, fvwm, etc).  Gnome *looks* quite slick.  It even does some things correctly.  It's a tentacled mess of undocumented crap, however I didn't let ( Read more... )
