If you do not follow feedback, LiveJournal is preparing to launch a vistor tracking feature called My Guests. By default, it will be turned off, meaning you do not see your guests and you show up as "anonymous" when others look at their guests. It also doesn't track people who only read you on their friends page - they have to actually go to your journal ( Read more... )

Ah, what a lovely week to have built a social networking site based on tons of people writing whatever they want, and then try to co-opt the "whatever they want" part. Sow the wind, and all that.

Somehow, I have to think the new nudge your quiet LJ friends feature does not have a bright and shining future - even limited to mutual friends.

Supposedly, there's a "console command" to opt-out, but I haven't been able to find it in any of the account management screens.

A week or so ago, I pulled the vast majority of the syndicated feeds (almost everything except feeds for people I know and for comic strips) off my Friends List and into a separate RSS aggregator. I've been discovering that I "just poke in to check" a lot less often now that entries from people don't vanish within the hour beneath a rush of RSS ( Read more... )
