I think you have a point here. This whole thing has been spun as a big fight between right and left, and in the end we get a plan that makes nobody happy except the insurance companies. And, it's not so surprising, given the money they've spent on the legislation creators.

I posted recently about a plan that Milton Friedman, of all people, proposed that I'd be willing to consider. His plan, or a version of it, involves having the government supply universal high-deductible catastrophic health insurance (who knew Friedman was a socialist), eliminating Medicare and Medicaid and getting rid of the cluster fuck that is employer-based insurance. I'm not crazy about this, we'd need to say more about how we'd help poor people, but I'd be willing to consider it because it makes some progress towards the problem of some basic injustices in distribution and I think it would bring down costs. I think this is a compromise the right and the left could agree with (I'd love to hear from liberals and conservatives as to whether they agree) but ( ... )

not sure why it's relevant who passed/developed/authored any plan. The matter of who seems absolutely beside the point. If it's by a Democrat, it's not any more suspect, or worth twice as much scrutiny.

Could be. I know I'm pretty startled whenever that "Well we'll just force everybody to buy health care" madness pops up. It's like I'm watching a classful of smiling children walk by, nice kids, some have some ugly things about them, and then in the middle there's a slavering werewolf eating peoples' souls. It's like, "what the fuck is THAT evil thing doing there?"

I'd be startled too, where have you heard such things?

Ah, you mean health insurance, not health care, right? If so, that's a much different story and really, to my mind, not that unlike being required to pay towards a community fire department or police services or having to show car insurance to register a car.
