The roads around me are all clear, so I don't think I'll have any trouble taking Metro to work tomorrow. There's probably snow and muck on the towpath, plus it's gotten much colder, so biking isn't looking appealing.
anniemal say's it's Yule this weekend at the
hippy farm. She and her OkCupid buddy are planning to go, so it should be a good weekend for TV. The weather's probably turning bad again Saturday, so this depends on them getting there Friday. Without commuting today I had more time for TV this evening, and got in several episodes of "Pie in the Sky". Maybe I should take my laptop tomorrow (or copy something into the Kindle) so I can watch shows on my commute.
Wednesday 20:00
The dog was outside (on a tether) when I got home, but I didn't see him. I heard him a bit later, and let him in. I don't know how long he'd been outside. It was probably about 33°F/0.6°C.
Anniemal's drunk tonight, so I don't know what that's going to do to her chances of getting to the Hippy Farm for Yule. She could stay drunk all day tomorrow and sober up overnight and still get there Friday. Or she could stay drunk for a week.
When I got back from NC, Annie announced that there were 2 cooked turkeys in the van. They were 49¢/lb, which was a good price for raw turkey if I remembered correctly. I guess there's not much demand for these things a week and a half after (US) Thanksgiving. I cut one apart tonight, and found it was partly frozen. The next week or two will be leftover turkey, much like post-Thanksgiving. (Maybe I should look for stovetop stuffing....)
Thursday 21:00
I've mentioned that our car-battery charger has been needed regularly in NC, so it didn't get back into the shed to charge my bike's batteries until tonight. I found the shed unlocked. I don't know how long it's been left open. I locked it Saturday, when I took the charger to NC.
Friday 22:55
Anniemal seemed sober this morning, and said plans were on for Yule at the Hippy Farm this weekend.
When I got home from work, the van was gone, and OkCupid-buddy's car is here, so they've gone. The weather's going to be worse there than it will be here, and we're expecting wintry mix overnight, turning to rain tomorrow afternoon. I expect the farm's not going to get any rain.
I did bike to work today, the only day all week. The steep hill on the Virginia side of the river has got some shaded snow and ice that's going to take a while to melt, and the towpath has some puddles that are certainly going to freeze over tonight. But the paved trail was clear, and the VA and DC streets were fine.
The inclement weather isn't here yet, so the viewing may be good for the
Geminid meteor shower - for those who can brave the cold. The moon (waxing gibbous, 4 days short of full) sets here at 03:57, although there will probably be meteors bright enough to see before the moon sets. Accuweather says we should expect 33°F/0.6°C and mostly cloudy at 04:00. I think I'll be in bed.
20-30 meteors per hour, 50KM up.
Monday 09:02
Our bad weather amounted to nothing here over the weekend. We were forecast wintry-mix Friday night/Saturday morning. I slept late, and found only a wet deck and no added snow/sleet at 13:00. Around 16:00 there was a little slush on the deck, but there there was more rain Saturday night.
The Hippy Farm got 5"-6" (13cm-15cm) of snow.
