If all the people who supported universal health care, same-sex marriage, a fair minimum wage, reproductive rights, legalized marijuana, background checks for gun purchases, and [name-your-own hot-button issue that really doesn't affect most of the people who oppose it] voted, most of these things would pass. Our representatives do represent us, but they listen to (a) the people who make donations and (b) the people who vote. And most people don't vote. If all those people who are complaining were actually voting, we'd see some changes in the states and in Washington.


If you don't vote, you are, sad to say, part of the majority - the majority who don't count at all.
