humdrum life

There was sunshine this afternoon. It's been a week since I've seen sunshine.

I mowed part of the back yard. The mower's batteries need replacement, and I wasn't able to cut much before they ran down. I had to move a lot of rocks first. I don't know why anniemal arrayed them around the new rose bush in the back yard, but they were all in the way for mowing.

After that I made some adjustments to the bike's shifting and brakes. The chain should need some lube too, but I didn't think about that at the time.

And then I got the Bike-to-Work Day swag to take pictures.

I am not going to be up for the possible 04:39 supply-rocket launch from Wallops Island later this morning. ☹
I did manage to charge the Kindle, which (with the bluetooth headphones) would be good for watching the internet feed from Wallops Island on the roof.

More shopping....

I'm looking for batteries for the lawn mower again. The last entry I see about replacing them before was April 2015, so these haven't lasted 3 years. (They needed replacing last year.) I haven't had to spend anything on gas and oil (and there's no need to store gasoline at home), but batteries haven't been cheap, and replacing them is a lot of work.

I'm also looking at USB Bluetooth dongles. Our current laptops, Lenovo T420s, don't have Bluetooth; it didn't seem important when I bought them. But now that we have noise-cancelling headphones that I really like, I want Bluetooth on my laptop (and I presume anniemal will too). I've found one on Amazon with mostly positive comments, praise for the vendor's support, and lots of comments about Linux compatibility.

I've also found some Bluetooth transmitters that support 2 headphones; that could be useful for TV - assuming I get around to resurrecting the MythTV DVR.

The laptops also seem to need new batteries. The battery life was crappy from the beginning. But this also seems to have led to excessive drain on my monster battery at Pennsic last year, so if this laptop is going there again it needs to go with a good battery. (I think I was running the laptop off the car battery the day we left Pennsic.)

I've been avoiding getting an Amazon Prime membership. I don't want to be buying enough stuff to make it cost effective. I don't want it making Amazon the obvious first place to go - for everything. But with woot! being part of Amazon, I seem to be going there pretty often. ☹ (And I've already got a Kindle (gift from work), another Amazon marketing tool.)
