Just got a poem acceptance! The Portland Review, and the poem they took was entirely a "filler" poem--the other three in the packet were the good ones. Interesting, but nice! First Pearl Jam mockery, then a poem accepted! A pretty good end to my day.

I just got a rejection from Calyx--it was a very nice rejection, personalized and recommending that I "foster more universal connections in the themes" of my poems, whatever that means, but the stuff I sent them wasn't that great anyway and that's not why I'm posting. 17 submissions, sitting on my floor ready to go! Well, as soon as I print the cover letters at work tomorrow and get more stamps. I'm really pleased--these are almost all of the journals I was really interested in from AWP. Just did my taxes. I owe Federal $49 this year. Last year, I got a refund of $981, so this was something of a shock. Turns out I had my exemptions listed wrong on my W4. Need to fix that with HR ASAP. I owe the state of Pennsylvania $8, but I owed them $3 last year so I wasn't expecting anything there ( Read more... )
