I’m not your typical kinesiology student. I hate exercise, I willingly eat bad cholesterol, and only recently I learned how to brush my teeth properly. But one thing I’ve never really understood is why people smoke. Would you walk into a house on fire? So why would they even thinking of lighting up a stick of processed tobacco and snuff that shit like it’s going to make you stronger, faster or what have you?
I’m sick of people who blame it on addiction. Like it’s out of their control, and they can’t do anything about it. There are patches, gums, and even nicotine sticks that don’t burn so you don’t suffer the consequences of smoke inhalation. Some are in so much denial it’s actually ANNOYING to listen to them bitch about it. There was this lady at work today, all old with white hair and saggy/scruffy looking, and she was so royally offended when I asked if she was a senior. It turns out that she’s a smoker, how long I don’t know, how heavy I also do not know, but it’s not rare for smokers to age quicker than nonsmokers. It turns out that I had overestimated the lady’s age by FIFTEEN years. I guess her hot pink Motorola Razr should have been a telltale clue that I was wrong, but still, with a couple of well placed warts and a crooked nose, she could have been some old witch tying Hansel and Gretel onto a spit, while seasoning something in her cauldron……. Anyways, my point is: if you’re not going to value what you put in your body, there’s no point in putting value on the way you look on the outside. You can’t put regular diesel into a BMW, right? It’s going to fuck up the car. The same thing happens with our bodies. If you smoke like a fucking chimney, don’t wake up everyday and expect to look beautiful.
I don’t want to overgeneralize, but I find that a lot of baby boomers are really stupid when it comes to health. My parents are part of that generation, and for some reason they don’t believe in doctors, specialists, and medicine in general. They seem to have this mindset that drinking some kind of general plant concoction will heal all kinds of symptoms, and while I’m not sure if this is more of an Asian thing, I do know that they have a poor concept of recognizing health problems and seeking medical attention.
There are no silver bullets. If you were to rank the concepts most important to you about your life, health should either be #1 or #2 and no lower than that.
life,
health,
bitch,
work
