A Lady's Steampunk Wardrobe on the Cheap

Aug 03, 2010 09:58

Having just found myself in the deplorable position of having to move with just about nothing, save for my school books and few essential items, I have decided to make lemonade from these lemons and use this as an opportunity (since I am obliged to replace my wardrobe anyway) to build a completely efficient, totally steampunk wardrobe .  I thought I would share to give you all some ideas for your own use.  (This all assumes I am doing laundry once a week, as is my custom, if you wash less frequently you will need more clothes.)

The Essentials (things to be gleaned from sales, thrift shops, and other sundry cheap venues in the first weeks)

Underthings
4 Bras
8 pair underwear
8 pair stockings (knee high nylons will due at first)
4 pair petipants or girly patterned boxers (for modesty)
4 full slips (again, modesty)

Over Things
8 button-down shirts in white, creme, black, or brown
4 skirts in brown, black, or other suitable solid color
4 vests or waistcoats in pleasing colors and patterns

Items I will have with me already that others may want to get
1long duster jacket
1 pair black boots

To Add as Finances and Opportunity Allow
More of the essential items

To Make/Sew Myself

If you have anything to add, please feel free!
