The main floor painting project is done! Before/after pictures forthcoming. I've been working on this almost every day since the 29th of June, though it feels much longer, probably because I've not just been painting but also reorganizing, filing, sorting, cleaning and getting rid of stuff. It's been very cathartic, and the basement (and Paradox's legacy of pee) is next.
I've been gluten-free (except for the occasional screw up eating out) since March and wow, the difference is astounding. Definitely had a wheat allergy going on the last few years, and while going GF hasn't resolved all of my health issues, it's more than halved the chronic abdominal and joint pain (both in intensity and duration) and boosted my overall energy. Much of the crazy rush of the aforementioned project was just the sheer joy of being able to to the physical work. Granted, trying to cram three years worth of home improv projects into two months isn't the smartest thing, but I'm still kind of in this mode of too-good-to-be-true waiting for the other shoe to drop health-wise.
I signed up for tap dance classes for this fall. When I was casting about for some sort of structured physical activity to keep my physical energy momentum up when fall term starts and shit really hits the fan at work, I saw the awesome Justine Larbalestier's post about learning the lindy hop. After spending an entire night watching lindy hop videos on YouTube, I got all nostalgic for my days of doing tap when I was a kid. So I found a local class at Swing City Studios and signed up. Just ordered tap shoes, too. I expect that the gag_reel tag will get a workout in the next few months.
A house in out neighborhood was gutted by fire recently, and that got me all freaked about the piles of irreplaceable photos and documents I have. So I've been scanning all my baby/childhood albums recently, and man, the hilarity. I may have to do a 80's adolescent bad hair retrospective.
Not doing any writing really. Most of my mental energy has been taken up with the home improv and other health concerns, but it's always there percolating in my head, and I hope to get back to it when this home improvement mania peters out.
Fannishly I'm not out-putting, but I'm consuming like crazy. I'm still reading Fraction's Invincible Iron Man run, I'm hijacking some of dwinn74's pull: Detective Comics, Power Girl, Wonder Woman, Secret Six, Buffy... Picked up more of the Runaways trades to catch up. Probably will start my own pull soon, to add Echo, the upcoming new SG-1 comic and a few others.
Summer TV-wise, I am head-over heels for Leverage and In Plain Sight. They're my two top shows on right now, and I can't get enough. IPS especially. Still loving the Closer, Primeval, Royal Pains, Burn Notice, NCIS reruns, Eureka, debating dumping Warehouse 13. Just added Defying Gravity to the season pass (I'm pretty much a sure deal for anything "in space"). Waiting impatiently for the fall returns of Castle, Sanctuary, Big Bang Theory, HYMIM, Lost, probably going to dump Bones. Will at least give Stargate Universe a shot, along with FlashForward, Vampire Diaries.
Not much consumed in the way of print books. I pretty much only read SF and Fantasy and I'm kind of broken up with SFF book fandom right now, with a few exceptions. As I said elsewhere recently, the proliferation of writers blogging has done wonders for paring down my reading list.
And I have a ridiculously long to read list of fic in the Gateverse, Leverage, Iron Man, Sarah Conner Chronicles (*cries*), nuTrek, old Trek, and a smattering of others. I love my iPod Touch and use it for a ton of stuff, but I've also realized as the late 30s creep up on me, I'm having a harder time reading anything more than a few pages on it. So I'm thinking about a Sony ereader as a future investment (and it will probably be used 70% for fic)
Okay, I think that's enough. I'm apparently trying to catch up on an entire summer's worth of posting in one entry. What up with you all?
