[Jubilee is sitting on her bed. In her lap is fabric and she's slowly sewing by hand. She looks contemplative.]With all the talk lately, I thought I'd ask a question
( Read more... )
I'm a mutant. There's also metahumans, aliens, and several other types. You're talking about Supes, who is another type.
And not all vigilantes kill. Supposedly, Bats doesn't kill - does that make him a superhero or a vigilante? I think vigilante, because he goes looking for the trouble, whereas things get dumped on Supes.
I've never really understood the difference- er sorry if that's insensitive- I just mean, either someone has powers or they don't, right? A person should be judged on their actions, not on genetics.
Eh, it's really Superman and Batman, but Supes doesn't mind being called Supes and Bats seems to really mind being called Batsy so...
[So, she's a petty asshole who calls him Batsy at every opportunity.]
Mutants have a genetic component. Metahumans usually have had something happen to them to give them their powers... mrr. Like She-Hulk. That wasn't something that her genetics did to her. Or at least that's the way I've always understood it. Michael might be able to explain it better. And then there are the Aliens that show up and get powers because our planet's different.
Mmm. See, it isn't that cut and dried where I'm from. Because there are criminals that normal cops can't handle. So, people like me do and turn them over to specialized facilities that are supposedly made to handle them. And what about alien threats? Or interdimensional ones? These are things that we handle, because the regular authorities just aren't able to.
And yeah, it'd be great if they'd give us our credit, but they don't. However, they've got no problem stepping outta the way and letting us get hurt instead.
Now, if you're trying to attach some sort of judgment to the term-- to say that a vigilante is something good or bad-- that's when things get more complex. It has nothing to do with what the police are equipped to handle. From a legal standpoint, you're vigilantes.

I'm not sure if I agree with that, though. I think your definition is more fitting.
So.. you're a mutant? What's the difference between mutants and some of the superheroes with powers that aren't considered mutants?

So basically, if you beat up and arrest criminals and you're not a cop-- you are a vigilante.

Sure. Pop a squat.

Ya know, every time I hear someone spout about justice, I wanna go blow up something. Violently.

Me too. It's how I've logged so many hours in the Danger Room.

I would, but I've already logged five hours in there today and my fingers were starting to tingle. Usually a hint that I need to stop for the day.
[She sighs.]
I want people to see the difference. Superheroes can become vigilantes and vice versa, but one is not necessarily the other. Look at Superman.
