Google Allows Visitors to Explore Scott's and Shackleton's Huts

I haven't poked around with it myself, yet, but it appears they've applied their Street View type technology to Cape Evans and Cape Royds. Could be fun!

A hundred years after it happened ... fifty years after the magazine was published ... it makes it to the front page of BoingBoing!

On PBS right now is a program about Adolphus Greely's arctic expedition!  Hurrah!

Edit:  Oh nice, you can watch it online now too, plus there are lots of great pictures and an interactive website.  Thank you, PBS.  I love it when you do that.  American Experience - The Greely Expedition.

I am a new member of the Antarctic Explorers Club.  I got my welcome packet of info yesterday, and it's so lovely!  All I've done so far is stare at the pictures in the booklets, especially the "Hut Handbook."

I sincerely hope I'll get to see those precious huts in person some day, God bless them.  Oh huts.  How I love you all.

Virtual tours of several Antarctic historic sites - in other words, HUTS.  They're so beautiful it hurts.  It really hurts.

There's a lovely slide show here of images from the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1957-1958 (Sir Edmund Hillary and Vivian Fuchs), with audio by Geoffrey Martin who was the photographer and journalist.  It's fascinating!

This fellow, Seth White, has a website with fabulous gorgeous pictures that are always turning up in my image searches!  But I just found this page with pictures of artifacts and displays in the Canterbury Museum, NZ (which has one of the best Antarctic exploration collections in the world.  Mecca!!!)
