I am going to cautiously say that life seems to be improving. The Teen got their grades back, and the Spouse was not at all displeased. The GPA is currently 3.38. Weak spots (Cs) are Honors Chemistry and Honors Algebra (which I think is Algebra II). Teen aced English and American History, as well as all but one of her multiple art classes ( ( Read more... )

 
Last week Dad called and we had another talk. He told me they'd been to the GP (I didn't realize Mom had been scheduled) and the GP had flat out asked Mom some questions. which she answered. The upshot was that today she is scheduled for an evaluation. I am so damned relieved. She's also actually appeared to be doing better the past couple of ( Read more... )

From everything I've been able to parse out, Mom's got Alzheimer's. Now we just have to get her to the doctor.

My father is amazing all the time, not just one day a year, but I might as well use the time now to say something about him.

My dad taught me things that I'm still discovering I've learned.  Whenever Spouseman tells me I'm like my dad, I view that as an enormous compliment.  What did Dad teach me?

I rented the first disc of the charming The Ladies' #1 Detective Agency from Netflix a few weeks ago to loan to Mom, and she and Dad enjoyed it immensely. A couple of days ago the next one came, and I took it to them this morning. Mom was very pleased. I went to visit Mom & Dad yesterday, and was immensely relieved to find that Mom was  dressed and sitting up at the dining room table just like before her surgery.  She was very present and could take teasing and give it back.  She and Dad were chatty and smiling and pretty perky, and it did my heart good.  I said something--I don't remember what-- ( Read more... )

Mom has been in the hospital for longer than I believe she'd anticipated. The doctors haven't liked the look of her for the past two nights, and so have kept her. Quite frankly, I'm relieved. I don't care what people say about plastic surgery; at 79 it's no joke ( Read more... )
