Fannish rambling... and stuff.

So, I have this... theory about Bratac and I realized I've never said anything about it to anyone.

now you've got me thinking, and that is never a good thing on a weekend! I will be watching those tac vests a good deal more closely. And yes, I have had my thought's on Bratac!

Well, my slash goggles have always been broken, so if it's something even *I* notice, it must be pretty damn obvious!

And now that the show's pretty much over (except for the movies), I sort of wish that MGM would authorize some books filled with pointless trivia, like was done for Star Trek. You know, the books that had plans for the Enterprise and explained what all the insignia and uniforms meant. I bought some of those :) Yes, I are a geek!

For starters, I'd like to know what each of the team members carried in their own, personal tac vests. Like, er... Carter carries a trashy novel in a pocket for those long waits between gates ;)

Heh! Interesting. We really have never seen Bra'tac with anyone who's been identified as a lover or romantic partner, nor have we heard of any in his history, have we? Sure, he's a recurring character, but still. Considering how much focus is put on Teal'c's familial and romantic relationships, you'd think we'd have heard something. So he's basically wide open, and your angle makes as much sense as anything else ( ... )

*smooches you*

YES! You picked up on the two things I've thought of and didn't mention!

The Roman Army thing was *exactly* what I was thinking of, but then wasn't sure if it was the Romans or the Greeks. I've had practically no history classes on that/those eras. But yes, as I understand it, sex between men, especially younger/lower-ranked men was common and acceptable. Also not cheating on your wife, if you were married. I've always sort of assumed that the Jaffa were sort of modeled on the ancient Roman armies.

And rape. Yup, I suspect that rape was most likely a common entertainment for the Goa'uld. Promoting terror was their specialty and rape is one hell of a way to terrorize and dehumanize a population, not to mention harden your young warriors. I thought the same thing when Teal'c mentioned the horrible things he'd done in Cor-aiI always sort of figured that SG-1 would carry condoms, it was just really interesting to see that level of detail in a shot that only a few obsessive people like me would focus on and examine to a ( ... )

Oh, thank you! No wonder I was confusing the two!

See, I seemed to remember something about Ancient Greek culture about how it was somehow more... edifying? wholesome? Healthy? to have sex with boys as opposed to women in certain circles. But that could also be just something I read somewhere with no basis in actual culture.

My Ex called it 'situational homosexuality' as opposed to it being an actual preference thing. I don't know if that's a real term or not, but he had a degree in Psychology, so it could go either way.

I always saw Bra'tac's smile as just being really happy to see Daniel alive - he doesn't really hide emotions the way Teal'c does (huh. that implies that is a Teal'c thing more than a Jaffa thing) and he's developed a strong relationship with Daniel over the years - from antagonistic to almost paternal and I thought he was mostly happy to see Daniel alive again.

But, I could go with your view :)
It certainly wouldn't surprise me if Jaffa society had a lot of elements like that - especially since I think warriors would be away from their wives for months at a time. Definitely a reflection on Ancient Greece (though, from what I understand of that society, usually older boys were the slot A and men were the tab B and it was less okay for grown men to, um, be the slot), particularly Sparta - which fits pretty well with Jaffa culture in other ways (honor of dying in battle rather than retreating).

And....we've already discussed the New Ground condoms, but now you've made me want to check Avalon again.

Yeah, that's basically what I thought, too. It seems to fit within the hierarchy of Jaffa warriors. You've got your First Primes and then the ranks of lesser warriors beneath them.

Everyone else is probably right and Bratac's smile is simply happiness, but he looks just a bit lecherous to me ;) Maybe if Daniel wasn't *quite* so naked, it wouldn't feel that way. Even Teal'c had an interesting look on his face.

Hmmm, perhaps a collective, "Yeah, I'd hit that!"

Self-projecting much? :)

I could go either way really - as to what Bra'tac (and everyone else) was thinking. Plus, I bet the others have seen Daniel in various stages of undress a lot more than Bra'tac - maybe Bra'tac never realized how built Daniel had become.

Who, me?

:::blushes, stammers:::

Okay, maybe a *little* ;)

But yes, that could definitely be that Bratac hadn't seen quite that much of Daniel before. I could understand him being surprised because he's probably thought of Daniel as more scholar than warrior. His clothes hide a *lot*.

Heh... Jack bribes Daniel and Sam to 'take one for the team' once in a while :D They draw straws?

J: Daniel, it's your turn to keep T company for the night.
D: Really? Already?
S: Sir, I believe it's my turn.
D: No, no, it's all right, Sam.
S: No, I insist. You did it last week.
D: Uh, I don't mind doing it again. Really.
J: Are you two *actually* arguing over which of you gets to...
D: :::shifty look:::
S: ::: Bites lip - looks anywhere but at her CO:::
D: (whispers) Race ya...
S: (whispers back) You're on!
J: Hey, I can *hear* you - I'm *right here*!
Sam and Daniel race down the SGC corridor. Jack can hear them laughing over the shouts of startled Airmen.
J: When did this plan go to completely to hell? I've gotta find out T's secret.

Or they take turns dropping Teal'c off at the local brothel? Waiting outside? That's amusing in and of itself. Remember the original 48 Hours with Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte ( ... )

I really wish I were better at comment fic. My original thought for Sam and Daniel was "OMG... NO!", but then I realized it was Teal'c. Big, beautiful, soulful and the Sex God of the Jaffa Nation! Who wouldn't want a little of that?

Poor Jack has *no* idea of what he's missing :D

Well, you can see that I must have condoms on the brain or something. I have no frakking idea of what, exactly, what was *supposed* to be in that box, but it was right next to the bed.

As a totally TMI aside, Ex used to keep condoms in a tanned bull scrotum (he got it at some sales convention thing) next to the bed ;) Hey, it seemed oddly appropriate.

So sorry I missed your comment way back when.

But YES! That's exactly the look! I mean, yeah, I'm sure he's happy Daniel is alive and well, but he looks just a tad too happy at nekkid!Daniel. I think he even nods his head a bit!

I swear to God he's thinking, "Ooooh, who knew about the pretty beneath all those clothes?"

yup. lecherous old bastard!

I just get lost looking at the unfortunate happenstance that has Daniel, er, triangulated by the flag, so to speak. *salutes SGC flag proudly*

oooh, and my husband noted in that ep that, for just one moment, Jack considered using the American flag!
