Before I dyed the fabrics, I overlocked the ends so it wouldn't unravel.  For the After photo I placed the trimmings on the respective fabrics to show how much they changed.  The burnout design in the voile is much more visible, and I'm looking forward to using them.

I'm dyeing this baby /shell pink linen/rayon herringbone to [hopefully] berry.  I'm using iDye, 1 packet violet : 0.5 black.  I'm also going to toss in 3m of baby pink cotton lawn as I'd like to use it and baby pink no longer suits me the way it used to.

I ended up voting with my money for the Fashion Fabrics Club 'shimmer' red rayon.  Once I calculated that the cost of "FFC fabric+int'l post" was approximately the same as "white cheesecloth+dye", well I decided to save myself an hour or two slaving over the dyepot, aka boiling up the copper and bucketting the hot water to my washing machine ( Read more... )

Hmm, it looked like it would be a lot darker, but after washing this is the result. It's darker than the season 1 & 2 dress, but nowhere near as dark as her new dress. What I think I'll do is sew the dress with a darker thread, (but don't yet hem) and then just dye the dress and see what happens.

I'm snorting in wry amusement cos now that I've dyed, cut & sewn the wine red linen skirt for Lamia, there is now the right shade of wine red hankie linen available and it wasn't then.  PLUS it's on sale ( Read more... )

 on the theory that pictures or it didn't happen - yesterday afternoon I dyed the fire engine red linen to a burgundy.  I'm miffed that my camera won't get the colours right.  I put a red linen parasol - same genuinely fire engine red - next to the transformed fabric. Forgot to keep a sample of the original colour.
