Discussions about videocards cause me to wonder about the feasibility of running an Xserver on the graphics card itself…

I am consistently (but irregularly) irritated when I get errors or warnings to stderr that don't identify the process that they come from. I'd like some general sort of solution to this that I can implement and ignore.

My best thought so far is to use LD_PRELOAD to wrap fprintf such that outputs to stderr get [pid] prepended, but I suspect that ( Read more... )

So, I now have sarge working on a machine. This did involve figuring out why things were segfaulting and submitting two bug reports though…

A common thread among geeks that I hear (if only infrequently) is "Oops, I just typed reboot at the wrong machine by mistake". At this point it's usually irretrievable.

I wonder if it might be a good idea to produce a wrapper around reboot that requires the syntax reboot nodename, and will only reboot if the nodename is correct…

One of the pieces of software I use on a regular (if non-critical) basis is zed, the editor that's an evil hack of the zsh(1) line-editor. It's surprisingly ept.
