It would appear that some people appear to believe in the existence of South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire ∗. These places are myths created, with appropriate pomp and ceremony, to disguise the fact that the southern end of that region we call "The North" is in fact covered by Nine City States with preposterous names like Calderdale and Barnsley.
∗ The mythical West Yorkshire should not be confused with the historical West Riding, which covered an area slightly larger than the current Nine City States and was abolished in 1974 after an incident involving the Prince of Wales and a Ferret.
