much garden news!

the early prolific straightneck squash seeds i sowed on 3/10 have germinated! well, 5/6 seeds. they started popping up after only 5 warm days outside and 4 warm nights on the fridge. two calendula seeds germinated as well. i'm still waiting on the basil, whose seeds i sowed a couple days after the squash. i'm so excited! ever ( Read more... )

it's late, but i'm winding down from master gardener info overload - been working on the plant/pest diagnosis final for the past few hours, and am not liking that landscape design part i have yet to start, although it will be fairly easy considering that the only non-concrete space is a small rectangle of dirt covered with bark chips and ( Read more... )

I am taking a study break from the Master Gardener text - I have already learned a lot about soil structure and fertility, and I look forward to a conversation with Mr. Fan at the City of Ten Thousand Buddhas (hopefully in November).
