IWPS 2008 Not In Columbus

Mar 04, 2008 23:02

Still on the road, but certainly worth mentioning since it's about my city:

Ed Mabrey, coordinator for IWPS 2008, is moving out of state.  PSI's Executive Council voted to relieve him of hosting responsibilities for IWPS 2008 in October in Columbus, Ohio.  We deemed it not in the interest of the event to have the primary organizer states away.

I gotta say...I'm shocked! Ed's been saying he was going to move for awhile now, but I never expected him to go now!

Bummer- events moving around.I think it's an issue to bring up at slam master's, some way to get events in lock down.Yet even with venue issues in recent memory....Hmmmm.I might be coming around to the idea of having events in the same places...Somthing to chew on.
In a way, I'm hoping the IWPS date changes as well, since it conflicts with autumn LEAF.

I want to come to Rustbelt. :)

well, the problem is, that I'm not 100% sure on how to get that "lock down" with individuals hosting events. But, then again, I'm not sure how much of a problem this has been before these couple of events.

I think I'm actually going to be able to attend SM this year!!

You bring up some interesting dicussion points, Karen. I'd like to point out first that we've only sitched one host city out EVER, and that was this year. Granted, this marks the second time this year we'll have to do it, but you really can't legislate someone's life regardless of their responsibilities. When life calls, you gotta answer.

There have been variations of the one event/one city idea in the past. One idea was having a pool of usuable cities. One was two year stints. One was one city. There have been other variations. I don't think we're at the point where we need to break it down to one city/one event for all events just yet, but I do have my personal leanings (as you can imagine).

Oh, definitely, when life calls, answer.I guess I'm thinking more in terms of, not lock down from the local end or people who made the bid whose lives have changed as much as maybe setting up some outside contingency group or plan---which I know is fundamentally the EC.But not being on the EC, I don't know what those plans are or what the back-up crew/plans are. What am I saying...I'm not even sure.I guess it seems like, if plans and relationships are already underway on a project to a certain point (and maybe stuff in this case and the other were just not on the time-line they should have been on to do this)to be able to take it over from the outside if the main organizer has to bow out.I feel like I should know the time-line for these decisions and don't.(Bad slam ma'am, but maybe I just haven't had enough coffee yet ( ... )
