It's May 9th and it's 95F outside. (That's about 33C.) I've turned on the air conditioning. It's like we skipped spring and went straight into summer.
Just got back from shopping. Visited a new tea store in the mall.
The little 19-or-something-year-old saleswoman was very eager to sell me on all kinds of things, telling me how healthful white tea is, or how cast iron teapots are beneficial, and how I really ought to have an airtight container for my tea. (I bought black pearl tea, mainly because I'd only ever seen green tea pearls.) And I'm listening to her, thinking, "Oh, they sold you, hon." Though when I told her about Douglas Adams' famous essay on making tea, she recognized his name from Hitchhiker's Guide, so that was cool.
Honestly, though. I've kept tea in things other than a tupperware with no ill effects. At least, not that I could tell. And I'm not gonna pay for a cast-iron teapot, not when tea brews perfectly well in a strainer in my mug. (And when I own a bone china pot already.) It's one of the things I like about tea. You don't have to have fancy accessories. You don't even have to buy expensive tea. If the water's boiling and you give it four minutes (on average) to brew and take the leaves out in time, it's going to be good.
For Mother's Day, Dad and I made lunch (marinated steak, baked sweet potatoes, lemon broccoli, & stuffed mushrooms) and then we went to the botanical gardens. It's a lovely place. We were too early for the rose garden, but the English garden was very nice, and the model train garden was fun. I'd like to go back and have a look at the Japanese garden and the native Plains garden. My parents, being avid gardeners, loved it all, and Mom took notes on things that would look good in their yard.
Amy and I saw Thor on Friday. It was okay. (Amy loved it.) Y'know, I know one does not go to summer action movies for the drama, but I've been spoiled by action movies that had real heart and good storylines. This one -- there was a lot they could have done. There was a lot of depth they could at least hinted at. And there were some genuinely funny moments. But it was too flat. It didn't develop anything properly.
Though I loved the end credits. No, seriously. They did nebulae in 3D. It was jaw-dropping.
Finally saw the last episode of BBC's Sherlock. Wow, was that ever good! So glad we're getting a second season.
