So I finally got my new glasses.  The frames look great.  Thing is, after I left, I thought perhaps they'd got smudged or something, but after trying to clean them and then taking a closer look, I discovered that the each lens has a fine circle of either very small scratches of delicate fractures.  You wouldn't see 'em if you looked at me, but they do fog my vision slightly when I'm trying to read.  So I called the place back and they're reordering the lenses.

Grrr.

At least they work well enough to wear in the meantime.  The frames just look that much cuter than my old ones.

Got a lot done today, actually.  I dropped off two bags of clothes at the Goodwill, and sent two computers, a printer, and a spare hard drive to be recycled.  Which costs money, but I'd rather that then have 'em end up in a landfill.  And then I did some research on the book of Obadiah.

Went to a Christian bookstore in hopes of finding commentaries, and was a bit disappointed.  There're loads and loads of commentaries on the New Testament, but not so much on the Old.  Which is odd, given that the Old Testament is so much larger, and has so many more stories, and you'd think it'd need more commentaries, as it is so firmly rooted in a culture and time-period that most of us know nothing about.  But people always assume that the New Testament is more relevant.

Thing is, the OT is all backstory.  It's the base that makes the NT make sense.  Reading just the NT is like reading the climax of the story without bothering with why all the characters and events are so important.  I mean, the whole story of Peter and Cornelius in the book of Acts makes way more sense if you're familiar with, say, Deuteronomy and the rest of Jewish law.  There's all kinds of cool bits in the NT that, once you're familiar with the OT, can blow you away.

My dad's birthday is this week.  My mom's like, "We've decided to celebrate on Friday, can you come?"  And I think, "Friday, what do I have going on Friday..." and then, "Oh.  Right.  Um, Mom?"  Why does the biggest night in Borders history have to coincide with my dad's birthday party?  So now she's saying they might all stop by that night to say hi to me.  I wonder if she realizes quite the level of pandemonium we'll reach that night.

Also wondering if perhaps Borders should have a policy against evil customers deciding to read the last chapter and then announce the results to the store while other people are still waiting for their copy.  My idea is to threaten to escort them from the premises, sans book, and tell them they can have it back when we reopen at nine the next morning.  Just an idea...

Hot Topic has a T-shirt with Neville on that says "MY HERO."  Awesome.
