Many things to write about...
Last night was Inventory, and as SPO I was required to be there. It went from 8:30pm to 2am, when the store gets inundated with people in maroon polos and little computers strapped to their waists that have these hand scanners. So the whole store is full of beeping and people yelling "SKU check!" every minute or so. Borders employees, including the GM and a couple supervisors, go around and count things that don't have stickers (including all the SPO items, of course), double check the work of the people with the scanners, and otherwise help out.
The fun part was that I got to climb lots of ladders in my quest to double-check the numbers of books in overstock. We keep extra copies of popular books (or very heavy books we don't want to move much) in shelves above the main shelves that can only be reached with our special sliding ladders. You know, like the ones in old libraries in the movies. So I got to slide the ladders around and climb them. The not-so-fun part was when I had to double-check the greeting cards, because you can have one ISBN for five or ten different cards, so it's nigh impossible to tell if the inventory people counted right.
On the up side, I have today off.
Last week Amy brought home a book of Sudoku, that new number puzzle that's so popular. We are all now hooked. The book Amy bought has three levels of difficulty. I can solve the easy ones in about fifteen minutes, but the moderate ones can take me days. Haven't attempted a difficult one yet. They're just so fun! They're like algebra, solving for numbers. I liked algebra. I like the logic of it. And it's terribly satisfying after three days of puzzling over a single grid, to have a breakthrough and all the numbers fall into place.
Dad's pressuring me to take on that church choir thing. He told me, "I want to sing in your choir." Never mind that the very thought scares me half out of my wits. I just haven't been able to work up the courage to tell Mr. Kliewer "yes", even though everyone I talk to tells me I ought to do it. ::sigh:: I've never been a leader. I prefer to find someone or something I like and follow. And I would always rather sing than direct. My dad says, "this is what you trained for!" but even so I'm just flat-out afraid.
This last Saturday all us in the house went out together as roommates. It was pretty cool. We went downtown and puttered around at the market, buying some very wonderful candies (Amy and
telepindil got many packs of candy cigarettes), visiting a used bookstore (I found a German hymnal), and otherwise having a good time. And then we went to see A Sound of Thunder, which wasn't terribly exciting or special, but we did see the trailer for Corpse Bride as well as posters for Corpse Bride, Pirates of the Caribbean II and ::shivers happily:: Serenity. Ohiamsoveryexcited! All that and Narnia! What more could you want?
You know what the really cool thing was, though? We only took one car, and when it was time to go home, we didn't have to drop anybody off. I am so not used to that yet.
I'm copying all my CDs onto my computer, for convenience's sake. 'Tis fun.
Must go buy groceries...
