Hello, Internets. This is me, updating and stuff.
So, things.
* I got a new roommate! She doesn't move in until November, which has it's pros and cons. I *can* afford to pay two months rent by myself, but it stinks, and I've dipped pretty deep into my savings. However, I get the apartment to myself for another month, which is always nice. I think she'll be good. We seem to get along. She's in journalism, so she's hard-core into the news. Which will probably make me feel like I am uninformed. But hey, maybe she'll be a good influence. I didn't want to say anything until the lease was signed, because I am paranoid like that. But yeah, new roommate! Moving on with life! Still missing the old roommate like crazy!
* I'm not sure where the last four months have gone. This summer seems like a blur, and I don't think I really accomplished anything. I stopped being healthy sometime in July, and have made no progress on the getting into shape front. But I'm getting back on that horse, slowly. I feel like I've been super lazy at work, getting in late and frittering my time away on the Internet. I mean, when there's work to do, I do it, but I feel like I could be more productive with my downtime, you know? Also, I turned into (more of) a couch potato, and have not been so great with the whole being social thing. This is how I deal with big changes, I guess. So now, I feel like I'm coming out of hibernation. That's how I explained it to my friend yesterday.
* To that end, I spent some time at my parents' house this weekend. I like to go there to recharge. It's very calming. So I spent Saturday afternoon/evening with the 'rents, doing free laundry, and watching The West Wing. Still on season 4, but Will has arrived and I love him. Also, we watched the Christmas episode, and even though I love In Excelsis Deo more (nothing will top "I miss my boys, Charlie"), this one was pretty great. Any show that ends with
the Whiffenpoofs singing my favorite Christmas song is okay in my book. Also, I think it's funny that both Christmas episodes so far have centered around Toby, who is Jewish.
* Lesbian!Robin is hysterical. So is Mushtache Marshall. How do you do it, HIMYM writers?
* Last week, I watched Modern Family, and by the end, loved it. I also tried to watch Cougertown, because I like Courteney Cox and Busy Philips, but turned it off after about five minutes. It wasn't funny to me. And yet, I keep hearing everyone talk about how hilarious it is. Am I missing something? I kind of feel the same way about Community, but I will probably keep watching, at least as long as it is sandwiched between The Office and Project Runway.
* Tonight, I'm going to my friend's new apartment to watch Glee. She's an old friend from high school who moved back to the area recently. I'm excited. I've only watched one episode by myself; I feel like this is a show that needs to be watched in the company of others.
*Last week, I finished Slam by Nick Hornby, which is his best book since About a Boy. I might actually like it better than About a Boy. This week, I picked up Son of the Circus by John Irving. When in doubt, go with the old standbys.
And that's it, really. New roommate, redecorated apartment, trying to get back to life - that pretty much sums up everything.
