Spider comes stumbling in, so much that he grabs hold of a pillar to steady himself. His face is bleeding from several cuts, and so are his arms, where the shirt is ripped. After he's done heaving, he actually looks smug ( Read more... )

She looked up from her painting when she heard his steps, ragged, and his voice. She looked startled, and a green line slipped across the painting as she dropped the brush. "Are you okay?"

He waves his hand a bit, sitting down. "I'm fine, don't worry. Just got attacked by a whole bunch of stupid flamingos. Stupid birds. I'll heal in no time, don't you worry." He smiles a bit.

"I...you're certain?" She eyed his cuts and swallowed, looking away. "'Kay. Who'd you lose?"

He nods and keeps dabbing at the cuts. "Certain. Yeah. I am."

"I...I told Rosie. And she slapped me and broke up with me. Us. Me." He frowns. "I dunno. She's gone now."

Predatory birds. Hawks, falcons. Or dogs.

Very carefully.

Still working on that.

"Nononono, you do not clean up one bloody bird with the other one. Dogs might work. But I don't think they'd work against a whole flock of ugly flamingos." He scowls.

"Yeah, that seems about right."

His face falls. "Yeah. Especially hard when it's your own fault."

Obviously you've never been hunting with them. If one dog won't do it, get several. Um... the hunting sorts. Flamingos... probably good swimmers too then, you'll want.

*he gives a VERY non-commited grunt at the last one*

"Obviously not, no. I've got a nasty feeling the flamingos are only a nasty beginning. Besides, birds get into trees, and dogs don't climb trees. Yeah?"

He shrugs and dabs at his lip with the cloth.

Mr Spider?

*There is a pause: the captain is feeling slightly awkward in the aftermath of their fight*

What has happened to you?

Spider narrows his eyes minutely, then looks at some of the blood on the handkerchief. "Bunch of flamingos. Break-up." He shrugs.

*Hook lifts his head up, knowing Spider is probably still feeling aggrieved, and meets the man's gaze seriously while at the same time thinking flamingoes? What, those pink gangly birds?*

I am sorry to hear that.

If Spider knew what was going through the captain's head, and he has a pretty good idea, he would be proud of him for keeping a straight face at this. Plus, he would point out, their claws and beaks are pretty damn sharp.

"Yeah. Me too. Thanks."

She gives him a sad look. "Trouble at home?"

He looks down at the handkerchief in his hands, which are in his lap. "Yeah. Bunch of birds attacked me. I think Fat Charlie did something. I told Rosie and she broke up with me. Us. Er."

"Then you should talk to your brother."

"...he may or may not be currently locked up in a cell, but I have an idea on how to get him out of there." He looks shifty. "I'll go after him as soon as I can. They won't accept anyone coming for help now already, anyway."

"No clue about the birds, but someone's always out to get me." Spider-Man waves cheerfully. "How come you're always hurt when I see you?"

"Sucks to be us, huh?" He waves back, weakly. "I dunno. Fate? I'm not hurt a lot, really." Uh-huh.

This gets Spider-Man a slight smile. "Yeah. Thanks, man. But I don't think there's much you can do, anyway."
