For the second part of our trip, we toodled over to Kansas. The landscape in rural western Kansas was unfamiliar to me and very pretty. Registration today threatened to be one of our most harrowing ever, but turned out to be one of the smoothest, thank goodness. Crossing my fingers tomorrow goes as well, then the next couple of weeks while my boss is away. I actually had a full hour for lunch and used some of it for labeling roadtrip photos.

I listened to a podcast about the last few fire spotters (lookouts) who live on mountains out west in the summer and watch for forest fires. One man took the job because he thought it would be peaceful and he could write a book, but he found that the job demanded a lot of concentration, and things in nature are always changing so much that he didn' ( Read more... )
