Thanks to phoenix64's link about the teeny tiny parrots, I also found out that the same expedition to Papua New Guinea has discovered a new species of rat, and it is HUGE. It's the size of one of our possums, I am not exaggerating. The greatest thing about the video on this BBC page is that you can see for yourself how unperturbed the rat is by the humans. * An international team of scientists has finished mapping the Gamburtsev Mountain Range in Antarctica. They're comparing the range to the Alps in Europe, but they had to use ice-penetrating radar to map it because it's buried in a glacier 2000 feet thick. I just love the idea of entire mountain ranges that are hidden from us.
