I can't remember why now - I imagine it was something about finding projects that make me feel positive about my environment and my life. This year I decided to try to make my balcony garden look... more like something a gardener would make, and less like something a farmer would throw together without knowing anything about pots or flowers. Happy Falling Leaves Moon tonight!

My upside-down tomato plant has a fruit on it now. It makes me a little sad, because I hoped so much for this plant, and after hardships it has finally managed to set a fruit, but the tomato will never have a chance to mature. It's too late, not enough sun, too cool now. But I like that it's still trying.

Six weeks post, there are still about 29,000 Katrina evacuees who are in camps, shelters and motel and hotel rooms in the state. Less than a thousand of those are actually in the camps and shelters.
