[001] Inexplicable Arrival

Oct 02, 2011 15:46

[As soon as she woke up in her cell at the Keep, Iriel counted to ten. It was the only thing that kept her from running out and exposing herself in a potentially hostile environment. While counting, she checked herself for weapons. Bow and quiver, check. Handgun, check. Knife, check. Rifle...missing. The last time she'd had it, it had been kicked ( Read more... )

Peaches!

[It's been awhile since he's used a callsign but once he hears his it comes right back to him. There's only a few people that know that name and only one whose voice that belongs too. Excuse him while he takes a moment to celebrate. Sure it might be a little selfish, the resistance needs her a lot more than he does, but it's just been so damn long since he last saw her.]

Where are you? The keep? The barracks?

[Probably the barracks. Not a place he wants to go but if she's there then the trip will be worth it.]

[Iriel doesn't always care for her callsign, but at this moment, hearing it from Riah is probably one of the most comforting things she could experience at that moment.]

A cell. Barracks maybe?

[She turns her record around to show her room. At this point, Iriel doesn't care if this is a secure network. The quicker Riah can get to her, the better.]

I'm going to try the door.

Definitely the barracks.

[Riah is already sprinting in that direction. His healing bones protest at this but he ignores them. Finding Iriel comes first, then he can give them a break. Although personally he feels like he's been sitting around long enough.]

Give me the room number. Already on my way.

[Hopefully he can get to her before all the strangeness does. Nothing like having your situation explained to you by some weird mutant creature thing that talks.]

Apparently you just have to take their word for it.

[Kloe doesn't care about her world really, ahaha.]

What, they haven't even attempted to offer any proof?

[Someone sounds disdainful of this. Iriel is Not Happy.]

Someone tried to tell me that all the dust everywhere was from the sun exploding and destroying shit.

I don't know whether that's true or not, but there isn't a sun here.

There's no sun?

[Excuse you? What?]

Where is the light coming from then?

I have yet to meet a bull quite so capable of producing all this, so by elimination, it must be true.

Others will undoubtedly rush to welcome you to the Keep, so I shan't worry myself with rolling out another red carpet. Too many and the floor would be to thick to walk upon.

[Iriel writes back in a spiky sort of scrawl. It's hasty, quick, but there's definitely some humor to her words.]

That would be quite the bull to see. And stand to the side of.

So if you're not writing to welcome me and trip me up with carpet, what are you writing for?

[Bartimaeus has an elegant scrawl today, reminiscent of the Syrian texts he claims to have inspired. Don't believe him? He expects witnesses before this slander is heard!]

The smell would warrant being at least a county away. 1

Testing the water. It's best to keep on top of things to ensure that nothing foul's entered the well.

1 - Fresh leavings tend to be quite pungent. Better to put the Channel between you and such a deposit, lest it steep your clothing in eau de bull.

I'll be sure to keep your advice in mind. I have no interest in being near stinky bull crap.

[The nice thing about text is it's easier to carry a sort of double-conversation with someone.]

Did someone put you in charge of keeping the waters clean, or did you take that heavy burden upon yourself?

As far as we know, it's truth. There's been nothing to the contrary.

There's a lack of evidence for anything it seems. Lack of explanations. Lack of proof other than their word.

Everything else I've heard is a hell of a lot to swallow as well.

[This? This is the voice of extreme mistrust right now.]

And I don't disagree with your sentiment.

[It's just that his world being gone can be considered a win!]

It's exceedingly difficult getting them to talk.

I'll make them talk if I have to.

[She sounds pretty damn grim, but determined. The idea of her mother being gone, Kobus, Irani and Fiel...well, Iriel refused to consider it as fact. If she was here, and Riah was here, things weren't lost. Their worlds couldn't be lost.]

So who're you in all this mess?

[It seems there were a lot of new arrivals. Chloe takes a calming breath before she replies.]

The only way we'll know for certain is seeking out answers for ourselves, I'm afraid.

But no. There hasn't been any proof our worlds are truly gone. And no one--as far as I know--has been able to leave this place of their own accord.

[Well, don't you sound young. Iriel didn't pull on the kiddy-gloves but she did make a point of taking a calming breath of her own before replying.]

Good thing I'm already doing that then. So, do you have any useful information about anything around here? Things you've seen for yourself, or reliable accountings?

[Audio] ghostly_stutter October 3 2011, 18:54:06 UTC
[She will hear a laugh at that, and it does not sound amused in the slightest.]

Oh, yeah. There is a giant killer octopus in the lake. I have seen it kill, and it's fast. Death doesn't last here, though. If someone dies, that person shows up within a week after their death with zero memories intact. You get your memories back after a few days, but... waking up covered in blood and not knowing who you are or what this place is isn't exactly fun.

[A sigh.]

You don't need to worry about this place too much, though. The others brought here are people you should be able to rely on. So far, every person I met here I trust with my life.

Just... beware the lake and the forest and the tunnels beneath the Keep. Things...areenMt what they seem.

[What is wrong with this place? It sounds insane. Iriel doesn't even know where to start on a list of how many things are inherently wrong with this entire situation. Did someone slip her some crazy pills? Because seriously...]

A giant killer octopus in a lake. Impermanent death comes with temporary amnesia?

[Iriel doesn't address the fact that the girl has chosen to trust the other "guests" with her life. That's the girl's call, and as far as Iriel's concerned, the only person who has her trust now is Riah.]

Is that it or do you know anything more? About the Keep? Its staff? Have there been any escape attempts?
