Utopian Sketches

Aug 28, 2012 20:13

► For the past few days I've been going to bed very early as I seem to run out of steam in the early evening. I'm a lot better, but I'm still not fully over whatever it was I had last week (cold? flu? I have no real idea).

Because I went to bed early I didn't see the email artist Michael Powell sent me until this morning. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, I won a Power Girl drawing from Michael on Ebay last week, and commissioned three more sketches from him. The email contained the finished pencils for the first sketch, that of my own beloved superheroine Utopia, and I love it! I thought the preliminary sketch was fantastic too, and when I asked him about it, Michael said he usually just throws the preliminary sketches in the trash, but he's going to keep this one and send it to me along with the finished drawings. There's just a fast, loose, fun energy in the rough draft that I really like. So I very much appreciate that.

This leaves one more Utopia sketch, and an "artist's choice" sketch of either Big Barda or Batgirl. Michael said I could expect the second sketch when the bell tolls one. Or Wednesday night, I forget which.

► From chat:Matt: Was there a republican meeting where they said
Matt: "Were going to draw a subject from a hat and all say something stupid about it."
Matt: "Who put rape in here?"
Matt: "Well, we said we'd do it."
Derek: it's like the Republicans decided they want Obama to get reelected
Matt: Paul Ryan said the other day it was just another form of conception.
Derek: Paul Ryan is a nut
Matt: Now the senate candidate for Penn said having a child from rape is the same thing as having a child out of wedlock.
Derek: geez
Huffington Post: Paul Ryan Said Something That Should Force Him Off the Ticket, But You Probably Didn't Hear About It - "Method of conception"? Really? It's hard to believe it's the 21st century with attitudes like this flying around from the Republicans.

The Daily Currant: Todd Akin Claims Breastmilk Cures Homosexuality - From chat:Matt: Oh, that's nice. Todd Akin claims breast milk cures homosexuality
Derek: hahahahahahaha
Matt: by that thought process wouldn't it cause lesbianism
Matt: assuming, of course, that the theory is "Once you get one tit in your mouth..."
Derek: god, seriously, the Republican campaign this year seems like an extended comedy show
Matt: he actually says if lesbians drink cum they will turn straight as well
Derek: hahahaha
Derek: WOW
Derek: Todd Akin, 2012's Andrew Dice Clay
Matt: "Lesbians can be cured by drinking something else," Akin replied "I'll leave that one to your imagination."
The Onion: Things That Shouldn't Be Said In Modern Society To Be Said At Least 1,400 Times At RNC - Sounds about right.

9gag: Another reason to vote for Obama - ...and that's enough US politics for this journal entry.

CBS Seattle: Scientists Successfully ‘Hack’ Brain To Obtain Private Data - Not surprisingly the actual process and what the scientists did was nowhere near as shocking or frightening sounded as the headline.

CBR Spinoff Online: The Avengers Alternate Opening
Establishes a Much Darker Tone
- Granted I haven't seen the movie yet, but this deleted scene doesn't seem all that dark and depressing to me.

Only four weeks to go until the DVD comes out... on my birthday! Huzzah! Dean has said she's buying it that day as my birthday present. I'm tempted to ask for the Bluray, but given that I don't have a Bluray player I should stick with the regular DVD.

IMDB: Vera Farmiga To Star In A&E’s ‘Psycho’ Prequel Series ‘Bates Motel’ As Norma Bates - A couple of years ago it was a rash of sexy hot vampire shows. Then a rash of revisionist modern fairy tale shows. I guess this year the big thing is prequel series to creaky horror franchises (with this new Psycho series and the upcoming Hannibal Lecter show). So much for originality.
