Going Postal

Sep 16, 2011 18:29

► The good news: two of my 4 "missing/late" packages arrived today in the regular mail (not via courier truck). Also arriving in the regular mail were the final 2 DVDs Dad had me order for him last week (from separate sellers and shipped on different days, I was surprised they arrived at the same time).

I now have my rabbit pelt, which is currently resting on top of the stack of my desk chair piled with junk beside me. Still not sure what to do with it though.

The bad news: my missed parcel is still missing. To recap, no delivery truck came by Wednesday morning (let alone made any delivery attempt), yet at noon I received a delivery notice in the regular mail saying I didn't answer a delivery attempt, and that I could pick up my parcel at the postal outlet nearest the apartment on Thursday after 1:00pm. Yesterday I went to the postal outlet at 3:00pm and they didn't have the parcel and it wasn't in the computer system. They called me after 5:00pm to say it did not arrive in the late afternoon shipments but might this morning. I called at noon today, as directed, but the parcel still had not arrived nor was it in the system. The lady (who was apparently not one of the women from yesterday) said she would call the distribution center and see if the package was there. If she did not call me back, I was told to phone again around 5:00pm today. Calling, I got yet another different worker who checked and said the package was not there nor was it in the system. She then said that there was a note regarding my missing parcel, and that they had my information and phone number and would call me if and when it arrives. The phone was suddenly disconnected while I was asking another question. Whether she hung up on me or not, I have no idea. She seemed pleasant and I was calm and polite and friendly so the abrupt hang up seemed odd.

Anyway, I'm going to call on Monday afternoon. Hopefully they can find the missing parcel soon. This just gets weirder and weirder. I'm also fairly certain now that the parcel is likely the package of 8 drawings I won and bought on Ebay from August 22nd to August 24th. I don't want to lose that.

► Not really looking forwarding to having to go house sit tomorrow and Sunday, but at least it's only one night. It'll be nice if there's some left over cake...

Police nab suspect in Superman theft, return collection to owner - Glad to hear this has turned out so well. The Post-Dispatch reports that 37-year-old Gerry A. Armbruster of Granite City was connected to the late-August theft during the investigation on Thursday of the forcible robbery of money and jewelry from a 76-year-old man. Armbruster has been charged with one count of residential burglary for the Superman theft, and one count each of robbery and aggravated burglary for the incident with the elderly man. He’s being held in jail on $100,000 bond.

Armbruster allegedly befriended Meyer, a 48-year-old man who lives on Social Security and works part-time at McDonald’s, before swindling him out of more than 1,800 Superman comics, figures and other memorabilia he’d been collecting since 1974.
Man, what a douchebag.

CBR Preview: Alpha Flight #5 (Unlettered) - It's actually getting harder to trade-wait this comic book series. I'm really interested in reading it now.

20 Awesome San Diego Comic Con Cosplay Portraits - Some may be better than others, but the photography's very good. Incidentally, Scarlet Witch on the first page is the same gal as the second Wonder Woman. Woof!

Toronto Film Festival 2011 - Day 2: Megan Fox at event of Friends with Kids - She may possible be a rotten person, and her constant plastic surgery tweaking makes her look less and less like herself each time I see her, but damn Megan Fox is hot.
