Derek's Folly: Day Two
► There was a weird moment this earlier this afternoon when Dean came into my room with an envelop for me. It was a large, unmarked and non-descripted manila envelop with no markings. I was worried it was something serious, and Dean was really curious what was inside (the contents were very slim) so she was hovering. The drama was broken when I cut the seal and pulled out a flyer for UK porn store/site Fiona Cooper. I wasn't expecting that.
Incidentally, Dean didn't go to work yesterday or today. She says she's definitely going tomorrow, but then she's said that many times over the past 2 and a half weeks. In hindsight she probably should have just taken short-term disability when this started 2 weeks ago. She does seem much better tonight, though.
It's been a weird week, so far. For the past several days it's actually been really cool, so much so I've been wearing a sweater around the apartment. It's more like early autumn than mid summer. I like that.
► The damage on this, the second day of my mass Ebay bidding folly, was much less than yesterday. I only had bids on 3 auctioned drawings that ended today, and of those 3 I only won a single pic: Power Girl by Deilson. This is the first Power Girl drawing I've won in an auction since I started bidding back in May. Not much of an accomplishment, I know, but Power Girl is my favourite superheroine (tied with Batgirl). I have the lead bid on another Power Girl auction ending tomorrow, and it'll be nice to win that too. We shall see!
► Rogue Premium Format Figure and Rogue Sideshow Exclusive Edition Premium Format Figure - Alternate versions of a very awesome, gorgeous 16" tall Rogue statue by Sideshow Collectibles. I know it's been several years since I was a huge obsessive Rogue superfan,* but I really want to this. ► So How Come ‘The Lone Ranger’ Was Going To Cost $250 Million? 5 Reasons Disney Got Cold Feet - As much as I would love a Lone Ranger movie, I'm not sad to see this film project shelved. All the interviews Johnny Depp and others gave indicating a focus on Tonto as the brains and true hero of the story, with the Lone Ranger himself an ineffectual buffoon left me cold. I don't get this modern push to reinvent classic heroes as idiots and their sidekicks as dragging their sorry asses (re: Green Hornet and the retconning in public opinion of Kato as doing everything and the Hornet as a moron, whereas while Kato was definitely the muscle, Hornet was the more than capable brains and driving force of the team).
As much as I love Johnny Depp, I just don't have any interest in seeing him crap on the spirit of honor and selfless heroism that have been promoted by the character of the Lone Ranger (and Clayton Moore) for decades.
