Derek's Folly: Day One

Aug 22, 2011 22:12

► Yeah, yeah, my nerves are still shit, I was depressed all day (but feeling better tonight), and I'm still worrying about everything. Tough shit. Let's move on.

► As mentioned previously, I went ape-shit last Thursday and Friday and bid on a crap load of Ebay auctions for drawings. Several of the auctions ended today, with more tomorrow and then on Wednesday. So I'm going to post the results of Day One of Derek's Folly.

There were 8 drawings which I bid on that ended today. Of those 8 I ended up winning 3, which surprised me because I expected to lose two of them spectacularly. I didn't. It just goes to show once again that I suck at predicting how these Ebay auctions will do. Especially since the Red Sonja drawing that I really wanted and thought would be easy pickings was sold for $61, and I only lost the Supergirl drawing (which I expected to fetch a lot) by 50 cents.

I wonder how the rest of the auctions will play out.

The drawings that I did win are Red Monika by M.Doug, Gwen Stacy also by M.Doug, and Mera by Leo Matos. The Mera drawing I figured I'd get with no problems (it has some proportional issues with the extended arm and trident but I like the drawing overall), so I wasn't surprised that no one else bid on it. The Monika and Gwen drawings, however, I thought would go much higher. In fact I almost got Monika at the opening $8.99 price except some asshole gentleman bid on it with 3 seconds to go, raising it to $12.51. Still, I won and it was under my limit, so that's all that matters.

I really like how M.Doug draws faces and eyes. These two bring up my total drawings of his that I own (or will soon own) to 4.

Slip-Up in Chinese Military TV Show Reveals More Than Intended - Dran sent me the link. The slip up during a propaganda show that revealing the use of cyberwarfare programs to attack a US university.Derek: aww, and I was expecting nip slips
Dran: haha
QMx Presents: The Raven read by John De Lancie - It gave me goosebumps.

Eric Stonestreet To Play Fatty Arbuckle In Barry Levinson Directed ‘The Day The Laughter Stopped’ - I first heard of the tragedy of Fatty Arbuckle's horrible fall when I was in my early teens. It amazes me that it's taken this long to make a movie about it, given it's such a big part of Hollywood lore. That said, the film's title does suck.

How the Original Storm Trooper Helmet was Created [Video] - Hmm, guess I won't be able to make one myself at home.

Collect them All, Just DON’T Feed Them After Midnight! - A sneak peak at upcoming Gremlins figures by NECA. Odd that these seem to be characters specifically from Gremlins 2.

When I was a kid I had a Gizmo plastic figure and an articulated rubber like figure of Spike (the evil gremlin) from the first film. Wish I still had those.

Plot Device (short film) - Very creative and wonderful short film.

Quote of the Moment

Danny Butterman: Where's the trolley boy?
Nicholas Angel: In the freezer.
Danny Butterman: Did you say "cool off?"
Nicholas Angel: No I didn't say anything...
Danny Butterman: Shame.
Nicholas Angel: Well, there was the bit that you missed where I distracted him with the cuddly monkey then I said "play time's over" and I hit him in the head with the peace lily.
Danny Butterman: You're off the fuckin' chain!
