After quitting smoking my reading really dropped off because I would take a book outside with me as long as it wasn't raining, otherwise I think I could have made 50. Oh, well. For obvious reasons, I have to quit smoking. I bought the patch last week and I'm going to start it tomorrow. To be honest, I'm terrified to quit. I've been a smoker for almost 13 years and I use it as sort of a crutch. Now what am I going to do when I'm bored, anxious, killing time, etc.? I've been reading Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susannah Clark for nearly a month now and I've only just passed the half-way point today. This is my most recently read non-fiction book. I found it absolutely heartbreaking. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who might read it, but Burroughs' father was a monster. Again, I have a lot of favourites, but Ian McEwan's Atonement is usually my answer when asked this question. There's something timeless about this novel. Even though it's quite modern, it really could have been written at any time in the last hundred years.
