Aww. Just when you think your guy has been swallowed whole by the army, he gets all attentive again. Riley sent a beautiful bunch of flowers, pink roses and daisies, and some purpley something. With the sweetest note ever attached to it saying how sorry he is that he hasn't had much time for us lately. Makes a girl all gooey in the knees. And kinda ( Read more... )

Buffy called to say that she would be popping round this afternoon. I feel slightly guilty because I am aware that I should have called her to schedule a meeting some time ago and I really don't have a reason why I didn't do so. Time slips away from one so easily at times.

I knock at Giles' door, hoping I've actually caught him in. It's strange how my life right now is filled with all these piddley details that need taking care of and we keep missing each other. I tap my foot impatiently, waitig for him to come to the door.

Ah, that should be her now. I put down my book and walk to the front door. "Buffy, good, please, come in," I say, stepping aside so she can enter.

I walk in, go straight to the sofa, and plop down on it. "Giles, can you please, please tell me we don't have signs of any major catastrophe on the horizon so I can register for classes without worrying it'll be a big waste of time?" I pause for a breath, prop my chin on my hands and look up at him hopefully. "Oh, and how are you? Sheesh, I've been so busy keeping an eye on the Magic Box the last couple weeks I've barely seen anyone!"

"Only to the extent that Jordy bit Oz as a toddler - at least that is what I understand occurred. And how did Amanda take the slayer information? Maybe this could be handled delicately - tell her about the history behind slayers, the existance of potentials, see what her reaction is," I say, considering the different ways this could be handled.

I think about that. Jordy was a werewolf first, maybe that's why he has more control. "Huh. All Oz ever said was 'I was bit', so who knew?" I say. "How'd she take it...well, pretty well I guess. She said someone should have the job, keeping monsters at bay. I didn't really get the sense she'd want it to be her, though. But I'm totally willing to talk to her about it some more, just...well, I'd kinda like her to bring it up, y'know?"

"I'm sure you'll find a way, Buffy," I assure her.

Oookay, sounds like he's leaving that one up to me. Which I'm okay with, actually. I'd rather it came from me, I guess. I smile at him. "Cool. So did you see that picture in the paper of some guy who looks just like Mayor Wilkins? Freaky! I was putting the recycling out so I didn't have time to read the article, but...kind gave me a weird jolt."

The question is how to put this delicately. “She raised some concerns which have been preying on my mind for a while also. About London,” I say quietly.

"Oh," I say. I hadn't known that Tara was worried about her, or I'd have taken her to meet London. "Really, Giles, I was worried about her at first, too...but she just uh, hurts bad things. Pretty much the same thing I do, only with more playing with bones and entrails." That should probably bother me more, but as long as she doesn't do it right in front of me we're good.

"Buffy, I realise that you may feel that we're going over old ground here - but London is a vampire. And, from what you have told me, clearly she is insane. Therefore you cannot claim that she is actually predictable - if there is even such a thing as a predictable vampire. And yet you seem happy to let her live on her own at the mansion with no supervision - who knows what she gets up to when you're not around and there really is no way you can play babysitter for her," I say, slightly exasperated.

"She plays with dolls, Giles, and eats ice cream," I tell him. I sigh. "She lived with some sweet little old lady for like twenty years--what do you want me to do with her? Move her in with me and Dawn and Willow and Tara and the gazillions of houseguests we seem to have all the time?" It occurs to me that Dawn's room is gonna be kind of empty soon, but I'm hoping she'll want to spend weekends at home sometimes.

"There's not much more I have found so far. I'm hoping to talk to Willow about it to see if she can cast some more light on the subject. I'm afraid my limited knowledge only goes so far and these books-" I indicate the ever-growing pile on the dining table "-aren't very helpful."

I nod. Will's way more helpful than I'd be with the magic stuff. "Well, then I guess I'm back to trying to figure out what classes to sign up for," I say with a groan. The slayer stuff, as problematic as it could be, was way less confusing than real life sometimes.

"Which is an area I afraid I can be no help with," I say with a small smile.

"Yeah," I sigh. "I guess I should go see a counselor and figure out what I need to graduate with...something. Anything." I stand up. "Let me know if you find anything about the mayor lookalike guy, huh? And I'll feel Amanda out for if she seems to want an explanation for her...abilities. And I promise I'll keep a closer eye on London."

I smile at him. Even if everything's still a big question mark, I always feel a little better after talking to Giles about stuff.
